Stereo Upgrade

Thinking about a stereo upgrade for my '09 CC Silverado--I have the non-Navi factory single-CD radio and non-Bose speakers.

Can I purchase the optional Bose system and install it? Would it be worth the cost? I wouldn't mind keeping the factory style head unit, but I wish it had 6 CDs or the XM had the favorite song notification and sports games/scores notify feature that the aftermarket ones do.

Are the speakers in our front and rear doors 6 1/2 inches or 6 3/4 inches? I'm assuming the little grilles on the front A pillars are tweeters? Anybody make a good replacement?

Any preferred brand of aftermarket replacement speakers for our trucks? I've upgraded to Infinity speakers in the past with good results.

Thanks!

i tried that for my 04. the gm dealer advised me not to. you are a lot better off going down to the local stereo shop finding a head unit you like getting some highly decent speakers and a sub or two installed for the cost of if not less than what you will pay to get the bose. and it will sound a lot better. you need different wiring

I have the factory Bose and the difference btw the Bose and non Bose would not be worth the amount it would cost, not to mention all the work that would be involved in installing the factory Bose. I do like the system in my truck but like said you can probably get an aftermarket system for a lot less and you have a lot more options to go with.

and the complaint i have about the bose is not enough bass. i have more than enough now and my whole set up was $1400. i have it all set up the way i want. i love it.

I agree with the rest. The bose system is not worth it. Go to a local stereo shop and see what they can do for your budget.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like aftermarket is the way to go. For now, I can replace my own door speakers. Before I take the skins off, are the speakers 6 1/2 inch?

Yes, and no. They are 6.5" that are molded into the dumbest looking adapters you have seen. Looks like GM started to put 6x9 or 5x8 and then cheaped out. Crutchfield.com is a great source for the speakers and you will get the adapter brackets and the wiring harness adapters for free. One a side not, 6x9's will fit in the doors (front and back) with a little bit of trimwork around the speaker opening. I did this to my 08, and the door panels fit right over top. Soooooooo much better that the 6.5's.

We put Sony Xplod Speakers and Head Unit in the fiancés Grand Prix. I was really impressed with the loudness and clarity of the whole setup. I think their what I'll be going with when my truck needs upgraded.
