8.1 W/cats Muffler Or No Muffler

this yukon still has the cats, i read alot of places that they flow great and should just stay.

so besides the tune and intake i just removed the factory muffler and replaced it with two pieces of 3" but left that resrtictive tailpipie that brings the two 3" into one...i was under the truck the other day looking around, and it was bugging me so i chopped it off, the yukon sounds awesome now. huge improvment in sound hacking that stupid tailpipe off, so now my question is it ok with no mufflers and just add two tailpipes,,or would i be better going with the borla or magnaflow..Again it sounds great the way it is.

i have magnaflow on a 5.7 3500 van i have..it does sound good. i just wanted something different for the yukon, i had borla on a 94 mustang cobra i had yrs,YRS ago and it sounded great..but right now it sounds awesome. sounds like the 8.1 im just concerned with pwr.torque.. because i know you need some back pressure to keep torque where it should be, alot of guys ran straight 3" with no cats or mufflers and its way to loud and probably dont have enough back pressure, thats why i figured leaving the cats w/no mufflers might be perfect

maybe try sticking a h-pipe in place of the muffler. That will give you some backpressure

I was gonna use an x-pipe after the cats and before the mufflers...maybe ill do that just put the xpipe were the muffler would go and run two tail pipes out

A h-pipe is usually supposed to give you more torque where an x-pipe is gonna give you more top end. At least that's what they claim

i guess that makes sense,, the h pipe seems slightly more restrictive than the X.. im gonna try the x for the best flow and sound..this 8.1 makes enough torque for me right now

what im really trying to figure out is which will will louder or quieter,,the xpipe than 2 borla or magnaflow, or the x-pipe with no mufler and tailpipes out, you would think the 3" pipe after the cats with no muffler would be louder, or does the borla/magnaflow increase sound..

right now it sounds great..i just wanted the x-pipe to balance things and tone it down just a little.

louder with or without?. really want to do 2 borla 12"..just dont want it to get quiter..slightly louder would be great

i think im just gonna go with the 12" borla xr1 and see what happens hopefully it doesnt get quieter

lol looks like your talkin to yourself here. um im no pro or anything but i think the magnaflow or borla would give it more on a controlled classic rumble sound versus just chopping the mufflers which would just make it annoyingly loud like no purr or nice rumble to it? i think i mean what do i know
