2.5 Leveling Kit

I was wondering how these actually get 2.5 inches. THe plates on this kit top gun customs 2.5 level (the one im looking into) only appear to be about an inch tall. How does this give you 2.5 inches of lift? I thought maybe it was just the picture at first, but then i saw this kit pure performance 2.5 and it says that each plate is 1.25 inches. So Im curious as to how it actually provides 2.5 inches of lift in the front. These would be going onto my 2008 silverado CC, 4 x 4.

 

Im also wondering whats the most i could do on stock rims for a tire size? 285/70r17 is what im getting from most of the posts ive read. Thanks.

I haven't actually installed one of these kits myself, but I believe the reason has to do with geometry. When the spacer is installed on the strut it changes the angles of the suspension, and therefore the truck's height can change more than the height of the spacer alone. Hopefully this is accurate.

 

Also, I've heard its dicey to use a leveling kit of more than 2" just because it causes so much stress on front end parts. Just a thought.

Yeah its just geometry. The coil body is mounted 1/2 way down the lower control arm. So the end of the control arm will move twice as far as the mid point. 1" spacer moves the mid-point 1" and the end 2". (So a 1.25" spacer will move the end 2.5")

Ahhh ok. That makes sense. So maybe i should just go with a two inch? I mean how much difference is that half inch gonna make anyways. Plus there are already plenty of threads about tires for a 2" level. Haha.

I would highly recommend the Rough Country 2" Leveling Kit. Cheapest and easiest to install. Do a search and you will find everyone feels the same way.

I think i am going to go with the RC 2" however, im going to go up in the back with blocks after today. We loaded up wood to bring to my grandmothers for her stove, the truck sat level, i dont want it to be squatting when i have a load. So ill probably bring the back up 1.5"

I installed a 2.5" leveling kit in the front and it lifted the front so much I had to install a 1" lift in the rear, but now it sits rite and some new larger tires would a great addition!

I went with a Zone Off-Road 2" kit. The front design is very similar to the Rough Country kit, but this one also included 2" rear blocks and longer u-bolts...all in one kit.

New tires are what started this lol. I figured i need new ones, so why not go bigger. Im liking the Dick Cepek FCIIs. Just from what ive read. Ill go 285/70r 17. Ill def look at that zone kit, thnx!

2" rc kit here. I was going to get 2.5" but with the lower cost and lower time to install and the less ware on front end parts sold me on it.

what dp u need a 2" block? I have 2"RC lift and im only have 1/4" or rake. seems like money that dosnt need to be spent and more time on install. If they sold just the front kit for 69$ then i would say go for it but u cant beat a RC hell i got mine for $50 shipped :cheers:

Well, I wanted my truck to be taller, but keep the rake. My '07 sat just .25"-.50" higher in the rear, like yours (had a 2" level kit). But, I hated the way it sagged when I was pulling a trailer, hauling a 4-wheeler, hauling fire-wood, pulling a camper, etc. If you don't tow or haul much (or don't mind the sagging rear when you do), then you probably don't need the rear blocks. I do a lot of towing & hauling with my truck, and IMO, a sagging rear end on a truck looks about as good as a sagging rear end on a woman. :cheers:

mine i had a ATV 450ex in rear and sit just right and pulled my friends bass bass boat and was 100% level did look like it sagged at all. If i would of done 2.5" i was going to do a bigger block.. how big r the stock blocks?

That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling. 
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
