2001 Sierra 1500 - Radio On But No Sound

Hi everyone,

 

My dad purchased a 2001 GMC sierra 1500 SL about two months ago. The radio turns on but no sound comes out of the speakers. The previous owner had the same issue but never looked into it.

 

A quick search on these forums revealed that every connection should be checked. I intend on doing that; however, I wanted to post here to find out if this is a common problem with a common solution.

 

Please send any advise you may have my way. This is my dad's first truck and I am simply trying to help him out. He is not technically oriented.
