2007 5.3l Tb Cleaning

I just got a 2007 silverado ext 2wd 5.3l LT with 38000 miles on it 2 weeks ago. When cold, the voltmeter reads about 12-12.5 and it bogs and shifts funny. Hard shifts. After about 15-20 minutes, voltmeter reads 14+ and it runs great. Now that is one issue, gotta go back to the dealer with that one. Gonna try to put a new set of belts on it because they squeak when I first start the truck.

Now, the dog issue. I think the Throttle body needs a good cleaning but I have that PITA electronic throttle. Do I clean it just like I did with my 2000 and just move the throttle blade to get to the back side or will that mess something up?

Thanks for any help. And yes, the torque management sucks along with the G80 rear. I want a true trac in this one now too.

It's holding shifts longer and shifting harder when cold to protect the transmission until it's up to operating temperature. That's by design, almost all trucks do it these days.

I doubt that the throttle body is causing anything either...Because that wouldn't clear up after 15 minutes. But if gives you a warm fuzzy, you can take it off in about 10 minutes and clean it.

Both situations were explained to me as follows:

When cold, the voltmeter reads about 12-12.5

This is normal - emissions related...alternator will not load without power demand on these trucks, especially against a cold engine. Volt reading will drop to nominal battery voltage. You will likely experience weak defroster fans, slow wipers, etc... on a cold engine for the same reason.

...bogs and shifts funny. Hard shifts. After about 15-20 minutes, voltmeter reads 14+ and it runs great.

This is normal - emission settings on newer vehicles with DBW cut power back and alter the shift program until the engine is warm and not pumping raw fuel past the cats. You should also see 210* normal water temps. Welcome to '07+ emission standards.

Thank you gentlemen about the info on the truck. I just entered into the current age of computer controls. I long for the days when you pushed on the gas pedal and the engine responded instantly. This action by committee on what the truck should do really makes it a pain to drive. Oh well.

Now back to the TB. Can I clean it like I have countless others in the past by manually pushing on the throttle blade or will that send the servo motors into limbo? Or do I have to take the entire TB off the truck to clean behind it?

Hey, does this mean there is no longer an idle air control valve and related passage to clog with gunk and ruin your day?

you can do it ether way.. if it is really dirty, than pull it off to clean. also while your at it, it would be a good time to clean your MAF while you have the intake tube off..

good luck
