you would be better off with a 295 or 285. 12.5 width is too wide for the recommended with of those wheels by about an inch. I'm sure you will find someone who says they have done it, but its not right.

You will get better treadwear out of a tire that fits the rim (will wear flatter) and you should prevent any rubbing issues if u stick with a 295 or 285

No. It's dangerous and you will get horrible treadwear. Even a 285/70/17 which is 11.5" wide would really be more at home on an 8" wheel. Although, you can run them on a 7.5 with no problems. (I do) You need wider wheels for a 33x12.50

Well if i could get the at2s on a set of wheels I liked for the same price as the DCs then yea. I have a black 08 silverado and I'm goin with the mosly black look so I've been lookin at black wheels but nothing in my range with the tires. But I'll talk to the shop guy just in case.

How is rim width measured? I just took a wheel off to check brakes while waiting for the oil temp p drop a bit for a change. Lip to lip it's a little over 8.5. It's a silverado lt1. Standard 17s.

And say I do bite the bullet on wheels. In a 17 or 18, what back spacing will I need?

Rims are measured inside to inside at the bead. A 7 inch wheel will measure around 8 inches outside to outside.

A 9 inch wheel will have a backspacing of +25mm (mine do)
