Considering these or the V-Tec Raptor wheel for a year round wheel in Michigan. I think the silver and machined surfaces will stay cleaner looking in the winter salt, than black wheels. I have seen these on an H2 in stock 17" and they are very rugged looking, more then the H2 stock wheels. Tough to see in the photo but face and high points on the rim are bright machined and I think those are fake chrome plastic torq screw heads. Looking at the 20x9 18mm offset with Zeon LTZ 305/50-20s.

Anyone have photo's on a truck?

Running them year round in Michigan is a mistake. They wont last more than two winters without deteriation. Wheels with a coating will be chewed off, and the shiny coatings on those little simulated bead lock bolts are going to ate up too. I live in PA and it happened to my 20s, so now i have a set of winter 20 and 35s because my XDs got ruined and dont run them in the summer any longer.

I would have much rather not had to buy another set of wheels and tires but i decided to leave them on last winter here in PA because the stock wheels and tires looked funny with the lift, but it cost me a lot of money in the long run. When the weather turns foul people arent worried about how clean your wheels look, (your not goin to be able to keep them clean i tried.) If I were you i would wait until spring time to put them on, and swap them out for winter, the salt really is too rough on them.

What he said ^^

I have some chrome 20's from Discount I picked up for $86 each. I never liked them but they got me this far. One winter and they are pretty much crap and I washed them frequently. So they are now my winter wheels and I'm picking up something else this spring to run in nice weather months.

Thanks guys. I have ruled out these due to the corrosion issue. Looking at a simpler design with clear coat that will be easier to keep clean.

I like the looks of these Black Rhino Kenya Hyper Silver. Guys as discount tire thought these should hold up as good as anything they have to offer. The Hyper Silver is a very bright silver, unlike this pic.

I would think this should hold up as well as a stock clear coated wheel, unless the clear coat isn't as good. I've also considered spraying them at first snow fall with some Fluid Film which should keep the salt neutralized but will result in a dirty oily film on them for the winter. I think I would spray the inner back sides at least.

Is there a reason you need to run the wheels in the winter time? Do you need new tires and only want to buy one set or something? If so i can understand that reasoning to a point, but if your doing something like that to save $ in an indirect way you run the potential of wasting your money.

Dont get me wrong I am not saying that those wheels wont hold up, I have no idea, for all i know they could have a diamond hard clear coat that i dont even know exists, but the point is why run them in the winter if you dont have to? I dont know how you boys do it in michigan but around here in PA a majority of people will take their wheels off for winter, or park their cars, trucks, etc that they dont want exposed to the corrosion. Like i said I only finally didnt take mine off for winter last year becayse with 7.5" of lift and fender flares the truck looked kinda goofy with oem wheels and tires. Our cars and trucks are coated in white grime from salt from about december until mid march. You can wash them every day but they still get dirty. Its not car show season.

Thats just my disclaimer, do i think those wheels will hold up? ya probably, atleast for the first year, but they might have noticeable marks etc on them just from all the junk thats piled up on the roads hitting them. And your guess was right, generally the clear coats on aftermarket wheels tend to be a little less resistant to corrosion compared to OEM. This last winter I thought i was going to be able to keep my wheels clean all winter until its below 20 degrees for 15 straight days, and you end up with 15 days worth of salt eating your wheels, and then as soon as you do wash, its warm, and theres snow melt, and the roads are wet and your truck gets dirty again immediately.

IF your gonna run aftermarket wheels in the salt, ones like you selected from a design standpoint look like they would hold up, i cant comment on their clear coat tho never owned a set.

Thank you and I agree with you. My stock 16" aluminum wheels have seen 11 winters and the bead area has corroded to the point the tires will no longer hold air. Even the stock polished and clear coated wheel backs were trashed in a couple of winters and I think you are correct in that all it takes is some chips or scratches thru the coating and any wheel will corroded. My summer and winter tires are both worn out and need replacing, so it just seemed like a good time to explore the idea of a nice looking wheel/tire package for year round. I have been rather surprised to hear in this forum that the aftermarket painted wheels don't hold up in the winter either. I always thought I had made a poor choice of 2 sets of tires and wheels, especially when it came to buying 2 sets of tires in the same year.

Buying a set of OEM wheels is without a doubt probably the best option. I'm just tired of switching summer and winter wheels. The other thing, this truck is my winter and rain day vehicle, I have another truck (boat puller) & a Z06 that get stored in the winter and not driven in the rain. But, I still really like my Z71 and not ready to give it up so I still try to keep it looking good.

BTW, my summer Niche Throttle chrome wheels (made in USA) still look like new after 11 years and 2 sets of tires, but they are 18x9's and look small now days. When I ordered them in 2000 they looked huge, a majority of everyone's custom truck wheels were 15 & 16 inches! Because of the trucks age (165,000 miles), I thought about just buying some good winter tires for the Niche's but I'm having a hard time dealing with the thought of trashing them after ll years of polishing and care.

Thank you for your advise, opinion, and experiences. It's all welcomed.

Ahh ok, now it makes sense. I would just buy those black rhinos and run them year round then. At first I was under the impression you were just trying to buy some custom wheels for your truck and i didnt want to see you ruin them right away. Just keep them as clean reasonably possible but I wouldnt stress too much about it. I would have to imagine the clear coat would hold up for atleast the first couple years before you see any serious deterioration.

no problem, I'm still having second thoughts of spending this much money on wheels for this truck. I started a few months ago looking at used OEM's with tires to realize I would still need to buy new tires anyway's for most of the used sets I found, so then why not get 20's, then I would need 20" wheels, and it just keeps escalating... I think most of us realize how easy that happens. I seen how good these new 20" tires look on your newer trucks and I got hooked! :uhoh:
