Brake Controller Help

I have a redline brake controller. It came with the truck when I bought it used. The led light stays on at all times. The unit will fade to orange/amber when I apply brakes without a trailer hooked up. The lights never shuts off even after the truck is turned off???? Is this normal?

Doesn't sound normal.....but I'm comparing that to how a Tekonsha would work.

In my experience, the light would only be on when a trailer is connected.

Probably more than likely your feeding power back through the trailer wiring. My 04 does it when the harness gets wet. Chances are your wiring in the back has been hacked up, I would check there first.

My Prodigy controller has two red dots that stay on all the time its not connected. Thats found in the installation instructions. They show the controller has power. They are on when I turn the ignition off but turn off after a while. When connected there will be a C displayed for connected. And when the brakes are applied the power numbers appear.

Guess I need to hook it up to a trailer first and see if any lights change. This truck is new to me so I didnt hook this thing up. I will keep everyone posted.

My Hayes controller flasher OC (Open Connection) when leftt plugged in with no trailer attached. This only stays on for about 5 minutes then the controller shuts down.

 

Sounds like you have feedback on yours. Go through and put electrical grease on all the connections and ensure no coorosion is present.

redline is sold buy redneck trailer supply's if you identify which on you have then you can probably getthe correct owerners manual with trouble shooting , here is a link with some listed to start with .

Mine works correctly per the manual...now.... the OP's might be messed up.........
