Power Steering Holding Tank

A pipe started leaking PS fluid due to rot and tank was in pretty bad rotting stage. Got all new tank, and pump and lines covered under warranty saving me hundreds of dollars. This area is prone to salt from winter driving and needs to be cleaned regualry after driving on salted roads constantly. I do treat it with fluid film, but heat of engine and hosing down wears product off over time. Would be so nice to replace all these parts with stainless steel parts and not have to worry about it. Really debating sparying entire under body of frame with that spray in bed liner product (professionally done ofcoarse). I plan on keeping this truck forever and if the time comes, would invest in a new engine long after warranty expires. Unless ofcoarse there is a generation truck that really catches my attention.

I guess you southern folks don't have to worry about the ongoing threat of road salt destroying your truck in winter, but up here in the NE we do. Would be great to have a bottom sheild covering entire engine bay, but not practical for cooling issues. I just hate when rock salt takes so little time to start to attack my trucks and eat away at them. It's like subteranium termites and your home. Just a matter of time.

dont do it, the last truck i had 02 Z71 had spray in beliner on the frame and rockers and it still turned into a rot box, the only way to keep then lasting is to take to a shop that does a rust stop spray or something like it (im sure some others will chime in) a nice thick waxy coat of oil under your truck every winter will keep it as close to ney as you can get driving in the salt

Actually the product that I meant is pretty much similar to spray in liner except it reverses the side effect of rust. Something in it, that attacks the rust and protects the metal like a spray in bed liner. I had this applied to step bars that were rotting on another plow truck and it stopped the rusting and gave it that spray in liner finish.

I had the same issue w/ my '04 this year. After almost 200,000 klicks it started to leak. Yes, it was 1 of the lines that are brazed/welded to the reservoir. That's the 1st PS pump I've had to replace in any of my trucks. I'll keep that area in mind in the future when I'm washing the truck during the winter.

I've heard from old timers that they used to like to use diesel fuel and spray it all under the chasis of their trucks for winter protection. I guess even dumping some diesel or oil all down in that section will offer some protection from winter road salt. Ofcoarse areas like the block and other parts that get extremely hot will burn it off in short time, but if it offers protection...
