what do you guys think of the upcoming Cavalier SS? I read about it when skimming though CAR at Barnes and Noble, wonder why none of the American car mag's don't know anything about it yet ???

Anyway, supercharged 2.0L four, 192 HP, 179 Torque (if I remember correctly(I'm not off by more than 10 on HP)

I think this think will give the give the Focus SVT a run for its money.

According to "car" this was developed the same time as the Impala/Silverado SS under the new GM Performance Division.

So we get a Impala SS, Silverado SS, and Cav SS, but is it worth losing the Camaro SS?

It's supposed to arrive with the Impala SS.

no it isn't.  the f-body is a loss that will be hard from GM to make up for.  it's just like the bronco, a great vehicle that was let go to make way for crap.

I mean no disrespect so don't take it the wrong way

But I am a  :uhoh: guys and the Camaro is by far more of an  :uhoh: american icon than the Bronco

I know you guys are going to get mad, but do you think GM would have dropped the Firebird and Camaro if they were selling??? They were not selling was the problem, so they dropped it. Some day there will be a replacement, but not until they can find a car that will appeal to the market.

Believe it or not the Chevy Cavalier is Chevy's #1 selling vehicle.

These are just the facts. I too will miss the Camaro.

The Cavalier/Sunfire factory is less than an hour from me.  It is in Lordstown Ohio.  It's a huge sprawling plant.  I toured it back in the early 70's when they were making Vegas there.

Believe it or not, that plant has had it's existance threatened alot lately do to the unproductivity of it's union workers, and the lack of profit margin...

I haven't heard about the Cav SS, and I don't know if it'll be produced there or not.

What are the numbers behind this? I would have thought that the Silverado sold more than the Cavalier. I know alot of Cav's are sold, but #1?

I hate the Aztek, but I think the Vibe looks pretty good. As far as the Cavailer goes, it is #1 in Chevy Car sales, not overall Chevy Sales. I thought we were talking about the Camaro vs the Cavalier here right??

the cav is a joke, the cav SS is even more of a joke.  It is a disgrace on the SS name.  Camero SS-325 HP, CAV SS - 192 HP?! WTF?!  I will miss the cameros and firebirds.  Chevy needs to drop the f-bodies for a little, then bring em back.  Will possibly spark interest.  I am looking forward to the new 2004 GTO.

My rambling is done...

192 HP in a car that size could do BIG things if they figure out how to engineer it right. OF course, we are talking GM, not BMW, so that hope might be lost.....

Hey, if they can get 400 hp out of the 4.2L Inline 6 they should be able to get some more ponies out of a 2.2L. I was watching Car and Driver today and they had a section on the GM Sport Compacts. I wasn't really paying that much attention as I was working, but they did show suped up versions of the Vibe, Cavalier, and Sunfire. They talked about turbos, supercharges and turbos with NOx. And these were GM executives, not aftermarket companies.

Make that sucka rwd and then throw a v6 in the front of her and start workin on it. Then put ss badging on it. FWD cars should never have the lable of SS ANYWHERE on them. Its just not right.

    • I’m doing an experiment on a vehicle I don’t have much money in. I’m going by the premise that after they last 100K miles they were no mechanical problems with assembly. Or defects with the parts. With oil changes by the minder for the first 127K miles when I acquired it. I quickly went through low mileage oil changes then settled on 5k oil changes with close to 170K miles on the vehicle currently. I did have the option to turn off the cylinder deactivation. I didn’t on this vehicle because in ECONOMY mode at least half the time. It should be a no brainer frequent oil changes are the key. The manufacturer gets away with the long oil changes with its severe service  maintenance. Just ask them what is normal.
    • Even set to "recirculated", the air pushes out and is hot. I have noticed that sometime it doesn't want to switch between recirculated/vented air. Say it is set to Circulated Air and I want to switch to Vented, when I click the Vented button, it just quickly lights up/clicks and immediatly switches back to Circulated. It's done this a few times now. So maybe it is an actuator getting stuck? But then, that doesn't explain the hot air when everything is off does it?
    • I wonder what the price is out at the coast, Big Sur or other out of the way locations as I bet they are charging quite a premium over the in land pumps.
    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
