2003 1500 Hd

I have what apprears to be a 14 bolt corp rear axle with a LS diff. My question is do I need the additive for the gear oil?

You do not have a limited slip differential. You have a G80 Locking differential made by Eaton. It uses a mechanical locking system, and therefore requires no limited slip additives.

 

Unless of course it is indeed an aftermarket LSD that was installed later

What he said above. The factory G80, even though it has some clutches, should NOT get LS oil or additive.

With a G80 Locking Differential you must use SAE 80W-90 GL5 (P/N 10950849) Synthetic equivalent oil .

Will an '02 1500 hd 4wd have the same rear end? I just got it and wondering what's in there. I have an '01 1500 with a truetrac and you can feel that thing engage.
