Front Brake Questions/opinions

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Front is wiggling and wobbling all around when i hit the brakes lol hence time to replace. Wanted yalls opinions on the rotors.

Im definitely ordering EBC greenstuff 7000 low dust heavy duty pads.

My question with the rotors are........ I thought about getting the EBC slotted and dimpled sport rotors OR just turning my OEM's? What do yall think?

Do the same size slotted and dimpled really make that big of a difference?

Also I havent ever looked when i have had the wheels off but do the rotors slide right off when caliper is off or do we have that annoying screw we have to take out?

Thanks guys!!!

OH one more thing....... if the slotted and dimpled rotors really do work better are there any that are better or cheaper out there!? Ive done research and EBC was about the only ones i found

I recently replaced my stock rotors with EBC drilled and slotted rotors along with hawk brake pads. Got 'em at summit racing. Made a HUGE difference. I, too, had the GM wobble as the stock rotors, IMHO, leave something to be desired. I don't tow, drive spirited, but not like I stole it, and the stock rotors were toast by 40,000 miles. I mean, one panic stop with those, and you are almost guaranteed to have them warp on ya. Mine were also grooved pretty bad.

As for the slots/holes/dimples:

When you apply braking, the friction of the pads on the rotors cause the gases and abraded pad material to build up and compress (hence, heat up) between the pad and the rotor.

The slots and holes provide a way for these gases and abradable to go somewhere, and, thus, allow for less heat to build up. I am sure there are other benefits, but that's the big one.

GO for it. Wish I had done mine sooner.

sweet. thanks for the reply!

Now if only to decide between the EBC slotted and DIMPLED

OR the powerstop slotted and DRILLED

The powerstop is cheaper too lol with a longer warranty

yeah, mine are slotted and dimpled. You will not be dissappointed, either way. My brakes are smooth as silk now, and if I have to hit them, the truck stops much better with less brake fade.

Now if ya REALLLLLY wanna go crazy, look for a 14" rotor conversion kit. One of my buddies has that and it makes the braking down-right entertaining.... but, when I looked, i believe what I found was on the order of $1200. don't need to stop that bad..

Let me know how it works out for ya.

Definatly DO NOT turn the OEM, they will just warp again.

Its pretty scarce around where I live for rotors for these trucks. For some good ones that is.

thanks guys!

Im ordering the powerstop drilled and slotted with the powerstop evolution pads today!

Frank---- i did find a 14" upgrade for $600 without pads....... but to me stopping isnt worth that for only 1 inch

& did you do the brakes yourself? Im wondering if we have that annoying ass screw/bolt on our rotors or do they just slide out?

Just a question but whats the verdict on pad/rotor wear with these combos? Or is the jury still out? I had read that the hawk pads would wear much more quickly than stock, and wear the rotors considerably more too. I'm at almost 63,000 on stock pads and rotors and have had 0 problems. Just wondering if I'll get the same life out of this combo on my 06 if I switch down the road.

Aggressive pads will wear faster and be harder on rotors, period. Gotta take the good with the bad.

If your truck isn't eating rotors stock, I'd leave it be by using factory equipment.

This is true. Im in stop and go traffic 24/7. The more aggressive the pads and rotors the faster you will wear pads, but shouldnt be a huge difference. BUT im willing to replace pads sooner over OEM if it means better braking :rollin:

Jury still out for me.... the stocks lasted me 40k, so may have to wait a while.

Buddy of mine has a bro that's a mechanic. He did it, I helped where I could and learned. Little weary about doing brake work, as I am NOT a mechanic.

BTW, I think it's the annoying a$$ screw.... sits flush with the rotor surface. Wasn't a big deal to get it out tho....
