got a 2004 duramax crew cab with electronic shift.

blew the chain out of the transfer case i while ago, just installed a rebuilt transfer case- 2wd and 4wd high works great but it doesent want to shift to 4 low. it makes a whine noise.

i finally got it into 4 low , drove it a little way then it made a bang and wouldent shift back into 4 high or 2. wouldent go into gear at all. it just made the whine noise in drive or reverse.put the truck in park and it still would roll.

i removed battery cables for a few minutes , fired it up and it then shifted fine back into 2wd and 4wd high.still wont go into 4 low though..

i am wondering if it could possible be the silinoid on the transfer case couse it seems like it wants to engage in 4 low but not engaging far enough.

any help would be appreciated!!

thanks.

Could very well be the encoder motor (motor that controls the shifting of the transfer case). It has

an internal position sensor that may be going bad and not telling it where to and how much to shift

causing incorrect shift positions. Could also be worn thrust bearings on the low range gear set or shift

fork issues. Tough to say with a used case.
