Need Help With Backup Camera

My sun likes my 08 AV stock backup camera and wondering if I can order just the camera and hook it up to an aftermarket basic LCD monitor...His car doesn't have anything except radio...

 

First is it possible to go this route?, he is not interested in aftermarket systems, because they are either too expensive or come with low quality cameras anyway... they say water resistance, but they aren't really durabl.

 

Any help on which parts to order and how to install?

should be able to. almost all cameras will have the yellow video wire running from them so its just a matter of supplying power to the camera fromthe reverse lights and then running the video cable up front to a monitor. ebay has cheapo monitors, but while looking for one i found it was cheaper to buy a monitor camera combo. best bet is to get a stock camera from something like your truck and invest a few bucks into a 2 din in dash screen, tht way he gets a new radio with a screen that can play video and can recieve the camera signal

What vehicle does your son have?

 

There are oem kits for GMT-900's for around 500-600 which include the wiring, camera and mirror with integrated lcd.

Thanks a lot for the info, there are many kits on ebay monitor camera combo as you mentioned, any recommendation? looking for day night heat water resistant camera.
