My truck is gonna be the homecoming vehicle for the club I'm in.......

Any of you have any experience with "spirit foam"? Its a foam you spray on your paint that turns hard and stick on, you can write/make designs etc. Its supposed to come right off, but I'm worried, so I haven't apporved the people putting on the paint yet, just windows.

What IS gonna be on my paint is BlackMagic Paint Tint. Our school colors are black and gold, so my truck's gonna look pretty cool(considering school colors) with a gold metallic  flakes. It is supposed to wash right off real easy.

I plan on washing it, waxing it(along with another wash to set the wax) the day before, to make removal of the decorations easier.

If you care, our plan is interesting, to say the least. If we can get everything together, we have a asian guy dressing up like Mr.T, and our teacher will be GoldDust(wrestler, only if we can find the costume, if you people know of an online store, feel free to post, please!!), and we'll put up posts in the four post holes in the bed, and put up "rope" to transform my muscle truck into an all-american wrestling ring. ]

either way, if we pull it off or not, my truck probably will at least be own our school's cable TV show.

You guys think it would be okay to put this "spirit foam" on?

we used to make floats for our little league parades.  We used my dads S-10 and grandpas S-10.  We covered them in paper (taped on with masking tape) and hot glued kleenex flowers (which were painted) to the paper.  We had some awesome floats.  One yr we had the ghostbusters car, a dalmation, and one yr we borrowed a semi tow truck flat bed from my moms work and made a tank (i even made the citys newsletter they had my pic and the truck)

I should scan some of those pics.  Those were the days

Oh yea i wouldnt let them spray any kinda spirit foam on my truck.  Id hook up a trailer and let em do whatever they wanted to do with the trailer

Well, I though I "est" this junk on my truck by spraying a small amount below the trim behind th back wheel, and leave it there are a while. I'll won't have the spirit foam on my truck for more than 6 hours at most, so if I "test" it in heat and cold for  for like 16, and it doesn't hurt the paint, you guys think it would be safe?

AND, how do I know if I have a clear coat, I should since it's a 90, but the hood and roof were repainted due to the oxidation problem. of course since there WAS a early 90's truck oxidation problem, that makes me wonder if they have clear coat?  ???  I think they do, anyone know for sure? I sound dumb asking this.

duh I read their site ("after 1988 viturally all manufacture paint is clear coat" or somthing like that.

CHECK THIS OUT!!!

these guys know what their doing, Read this line, then decide again if its safe or not:

Q: Will Spirit leave any residue once I peel it off?

A: Spirit is safe, fun and easy. Just spray it on, let it dry, and when you are ready, peel it off. Spirit contains automotive wax components. On some vehicles you may notice the waxed area under the foam after removal. This wax is not harmful to painted surfaces. To remove, lightly buff or wax area.

if that dosen't convince you: VAVOLINE MAKES IT!!!! this has GOT to be safe for the truck.

So it contain wax, you guys agree its probably safe?(I'll still do a 10 hour plus test)

 Borrow someones FORD for a job like that..  lol... A GM truck is a good homecoming float all in itself  :thumb:

my teachers got a 2002 F-150 but he dosn't want to use it and it's green, which completely clashes with school colors, and why make the poor people suffer anyway? (sorry paco, this IS a GM site though)

I trust Valvoline with my engine, I'm gonna trust them with the paint if my pre-test looks good.

well, can't exactly do a test, we don't have enough spirit foam, although I'm still gonna test the hood the the few hours of time I have(only take like 15 min to completely dry). But the wash/wax/wash trim shine is done and I got it looking so good right now I don't want to do anything to it!

it all went well, my truck looked cool(thats a relative term, retelative to homecoming decorations), and eventually be on our schools cable TV show.

I was the only truck with the gold spray on stuff, so we were unique(after we put it on people literally though that was my REAL paint). Every thing washed off, except for about 2% of the gold glitter stuff, but they not much and its spread out nicely so it looks stock and kinda cool(you can only see it if your up REAL close, eyeball 3 inches from paint).  Despite my wishes, two girls put scotch tape on my truck to tape stramers on, instead of taping it on the very-nearby plastic trim, and even though nothing happened, there is goning tobe some kind of payback.
