Gmc 2500 Hd Transfer Case Part Number

Can anyone tell me where to look for the part number for the transfer case on my 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 hd. I need to give it to a guy for a quote I crawled under and saw a number on the side 40008990 and tried to find it on the web and not getting anywhere. It went out on the wife while going down the freeway in 4 Hi. It makes a grinding noise in 4 Hi that goes away in 2 Hi. Hoping for the best but the grinding can't be a good sign.

  Ha!! So GM Customer service, ive already been talking with someone on your email team and there is nothing they can do. So pretty consistent with everyone else’s experience- you can do NOTHING.. worthless emails. Sure glad i have 4 GM cars on our family cuz now its clear you dont care.. Sad and pathetic.
