Bds Or Zone?

I am getting a lift on my 2009 silverado. I am stuck between two different lifts. The local shop wants to install the zone 6.5" lift on my truck, but i was kind of wanting the BDS 6" lift. Is there a difference in quality in these two lifts? Which one should I go with?

I had the same questions and was told to go with BDS solely because I was looking for a lifetime warranty. The only one I was told to stay away from was the Rough Country because it tends to max out your angles.

Front what I know, BDS too :rolleyes: But I say if your going to have it installed, go with the one the installer backs the most. They would be the ones servicing if you have an issue.

ok. I think i will probably go with BDS but i have a few more questions...

 

1. i have a 4.8l v8. not sure about current gear ratio, but will i need to upgrade the gears when i do a 6" lift? or will it be ok (at least for a little while) with the stock gears?

 

2. I plan on putting 33" tires on my truck. will this look bad with a 6" lift or do i need to go with a 4" lift instead? both the 4" and 6" lift are the same price and i am against not getting my full moneys worth out of it. i would probably upgrade to 35" tires later, but i'm sure i would definitely need to regear with the 35" tires. i am trying to keep the initial cost as low as possible.

 

3. should i paint my chrome grille and bumper black? and how? (my truck is black metallic and i have a billet grille)

BDS in my opinion.

 

You wouldn't need gears just because of the lift but if you go to the 35" tire a regear is recommended depending on what gears you have now.

 

I personally think 33x12.5 look nice with a 6" lift. If you're even considering 35's and it seems as if you are, then GET THE 6" LIFT. You will regret it big time if you get the 4 and then decide you want more height. Most everyone who gets the 4" wishes they would have gotten the 6" later. Save the money and do it the 1st time.

 

 

 

Painting the grille and bumper looks good I am going to get around to painting my front bumper black one day :thumbs:

great! I really did not want to have to spend the extra money to regear my truck...

 

so far I am pretty sure about this setup..

 

-6" BDS suspension lift

-33x12.5x18 mickey thompson ATZs

-18x9 mamba m2's or xd monsters

-paint front bumper and grille black. if if will not look bad with my black metallic truck color???

-black out chevy symbols... but how?

-tint tail lights with vht nite shades but leave reverse lights white

-white out head lights (take yellow reflector out)... but how?

-debadge possibly

-flowmaster 40 series single in dual out exhaust

-super chip or bully dog handheld programmer. (later down the road)

-rhino liner bed liner (later)

-differential locker. Cost?? (later)

-eventually regear but to what ratio?

 

any other suggestions??? and thanks for input!!! please post pictures of trucks with 6" lift! i have extended cab.

Blacking out the Bow Ties is easy if that's what you're referring to when you say black out the emblems. Just take the front one off, scuff it with sand paper then paint it with Krylon Fusion spray paint using light coats. With the rear one tape off the chrome on the emblem then put newspaper over the COMPLETE tailgate and rear of the truck. Use the same spray paint and light coats.

 

Clearing the headlights is something I haven't ventured into. I don't like the idea of breaking open the housing and gluing it back together.

 

Debadge is pretty simple but time consuming

 

Don't bother with a programmer get a BlackBear Tune

 

Gears and Locker will cost about 1,000.00 depending on what you get plus install which varies but I paid 700.00 to have my front and rear gears installed with a True Trac.

i have thought about blackbear but what do i do when it comes time to get inspection or service work that is supposed to be under warranty? with a handheld i can return it to stock but not with blackbear?

Wrong grasshopper.

With BB you can get a replacement PCM and ECM (I think ECM) and put those in when you go to the dealer.

Or the newest way is get the Auto Cal. It plugs in like a programmer but you do a driving log and email the stock tunes to BB with the log. BB makes a custom tune for your truck and emails the new tune. You put the new tune in the autocal and load it in truck. Then you save your stock tunes and can put them back in whenever you need to go to the dealer.

 

I just got a AutoCal and the BB tune is night and day difference from my Predator handheld.

The 6" BDS is a great choice and 33x12.50 ATZ's will look good. Also for some strange reason I find a color matched/debadged truck very appealing. :thumbs: If you have a shop paint your grille/bumpers, then just have them spray the front bowtie too. And I would lose the tailgate bowtie. :thumbs:

how do i get the exact color bumper that my truck is? i really wish i had not gotten the metallic paint now... or would straight black still look good?

 

and how much would it cost me to get a shop to paint my bumper?

A shop will match the paint for the bumpers, and you can always order the color matched grille from GM (I'm assuming they offer it in your color). I would think that a shop wouldn't charge more than a couple hundred to paint the bumpers...if you pull them off yourself and take them to the shop. I did all of my paint work myself.

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?  
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.  
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
