so i'm sitting here with a wind chill of -8 outside and i'm wondering why does the motor idle high on cold start up? for example my truck will ride 800 rpms or so until the thermo opens, is it to warm the motor up? because common belief is modern motors don't need to warm up before being driven...i know your lurking roberto

Your right, they can be driven unlike the old motors... but I'd still give them 5-10 minutes to warm up just so you don't hurt anything and the motors properly lubricated
