Driver Side Door Speaker Replacement

I'm looking to replace my driver's side door speaker on a GMT900 RCLB. This speaker randomly died on me as over the past few months it has come in and gone out occasionally but for the past few weeks the speaker has been totally dead. I notice it most because I don't get the door chime which I wouldn't mind normally. However, this is a WT model with manual locks so the chime has saved me a few times from locking the keys in and I hate that I don't get the blinker noise so I'm frequently having to double check to make sure my blinker is on.

 

I've never replaced speakers before some I looking for some suggestions on what to do. All of the other speakers are fine so I figured I would just buy a stock speaker from GMPartsDirect. Any other suggestions?

 

Also, how are speakers installed on these trucks? I've had the door panel off to the point of the door latch (can't get past there) and I've seen the speaker with little phillips head screws around it but I'm lost beyond that.

You are wasting your money if you buy the factory speaker again. Many people have had speakers go out just like yours. My speaker went out last year.

 

Go to crutchfield.com and buy any 6.5 speakers you like. They will ship you the speaker brackets and the wire harness adapter for free.

 

You install the aftermarket speaker in the bracket, then plug the wiring harness on the speaker. Take the speaker to the truck and it installs with the one bolt and plugs up just like the factory speaker. You do not even need to take the cable off the door handle, you can do this with the door panels on.

Would probably be cheaper to go aftermarket anyways.

not to mention aftermarket will sound better and then you can go ahead and replace both front
