2004 Silverado 2500hd - No Radio, No Door Ding...

Good Afternoon everyone,

I'm new to the forum here, so criticism is greatly appreciated, ha...I have a 2004 Silverado 2500HD that is my work truck. Over the summer, someone broke in and attempted to steal the truck. In doing so, they messed up the ignition (tried to shove a screwdriver in where the key should go) and in turn the ignition had to be replaced. However, the job was done by one of our "on the side mechanics" and ever since then, there hasn't been the dinging when you leave the headlights on, keys in the ignition, etc. and no radio. Let me clarify with the radio. It does work; you can turn it on, change stations, change the time, but you just don't get any sound. The only time you might get sound is if it is really hot outside and it seems to get a wire hot enough to make contact and then it works. Any ideas as to which wires might have been crossed or misplaced? Thanks in advance - CK

wow that is interesting.... for one you don't hear the dinging because the radio isn't working, so that problem is solved. LOL. Just a shot in the dark, have you checked all of the fuses?

All of the chimes are produced by the radio. Get the radio working and the chimes will work.

Ahh well that would certainly make sense, chimes coming from the radio. Yep, I've checked all the fuses and everything. I just find it funny that a certain area, wire or something will sometimes get hot enough and make a sort of connection or something. Of course this only happened during the summer, but still....I'll keep hunting under the dash...thanks for the replies so far.
