General 1995 Yukon Questions

I recently bought a 95 GMC Yukon 4WD and have a couple of questions I need answered.

1.  It has no spare.  Will it hurt anything if I drive for relatively short distances on a spare that is a different diameter than the other tires (they are 33's)?

2.  The oil in the rear axle.  It should be just to the bottom of the fill hole, correct?  That looks to be the only leak I have found (at the pinion seal) and the gear oil is much lower than the fill hole.

Thats all for tonight.  Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.  Hope you enjoy your new truck.

1.  I've always been told that with limited slip or locking diff, having different tire sizes will cause the diff to work much harder and wear out.  Plus it will cause the vehicle to pull to one side.  It is a good idea to get a spare that is as close to the size tire you are running (at least height wise).  If you don't carry a spare, just make sure you carry a can of fix a flat to limp you to where you are going.

2.  Oil in rear axle should be to the fill hole.

Thanks Carguru.  :D  I see you have a Corvette too.  I have a 96 GrandSport.

I was looking last night and I don't think a 33" tall tire will fit in the spare carrier under the Yukon.  Looks like maybe a 30" or 31" tire at most.

Cool.  Another 'vette owner on the forum. :thumb: The tire thing might be a bit of a problem.  You could always get one of those safari racks and put the spare up there.
