Ok, I Admit I Am A Chevy Guy --- But

Gentlemen,

I have always been GM and have rarely been disappointed. I have owned Fords and found them to be hobbies. I know they are better now --- But.

I enjoy reading the Ford Forums because I did own Fords and there are great guys there ---But.

Most of the posts seem to be related to genuine, real sometimes catastrophic problems these guys are having. Engines that spit spark plugs out, can chain tensioner problems on non-ohc engines. Really bad stuff that leaves you walking looking back at black rivers of oil flowing from the engine.

On this site there is the occasional real problem but mostly guys here talk about train horns, air deflectors and lift kits.

Like I said, I am a GM guy but I do think our vehicles are much better built and engineered than many others. Check it out and see what I mean.

Chevy Rocks!

And imagine what it will be like once people start running their brand new engines. I think the f150 is all new engines instead of using anything tried and true. Including a twin turbo v6 which to me sounds like a recipe for disaster in the name of a couple mpg

The plug thing I think was blown out of proportion. Yeah, it's a massive failure but there are hundreds of thousands of modular V8s out there, if not millions. With sample groups that big you're bound to see major issues. That and I think some of the plug issues stem from improper installation. As for the timing chain guide failure, I'm not as familiar with that issue.

As for Ford not using anything "tried and true"- what if everyone did? We'd still be driving garbage with carbs that got 8 MPG with maybe 200 HP. Eventually someone has to venture out and try the new technology. GM has a great thing with the LSx engines, no doubt about that but the 5.0 had proven stout from the Mustang guys and the EB engine is an interesting unit too. I'll wait till there are some real magazine reviews on it before passing any judgment though.

I have never understood why blue oval let go of the 5.0.

I'm talking about their new 5.0. Totally different engine than the old 5.0 (4.9 )

Gentlemen,

Like I said, it is just a "feeling". I do think our trucks are quite well made, maybe among the best.

And to say that the spark plug problems that Ford has had for 10+ years with their junk modular boat anchors (with the junk Triton heads) was blown out of proportion yet say that it's a massive failure is contradictory.

According to the Ford Forums, the chain tensioner chips out blocking the oil screen taking out the engine. As far as engines blowing out sparkplugs (factory installed) , that is triple pathetic. Homer Simpson could engineer a sparkplug hole. It is not rocket science.

Hello All,

I figured my first post would be to chime in on this if you don’t mind! I personally hold no brand loyalty at all. To do so in my opinion is mindless and opens a person to be taken advantage of. I buy what I like with the features that I want in the price bracket that I can afford regardless of brand. Having said all of that I have owned many Chevys and Fords and I would say that both are just as equal in quality, both suck and both are good…if you know what I mean.

I just traded in my 2007 Mustang GT on a 2010 Silverado and while time will tell on the truck, I had zero problems with the Mustang. The 4.6L mod engine is a nice unit and is better than the old 5.0 in power and fuel economy. The new Mustangs are built quite well actually, the only problem I had with mine was a bit of chunkiness in the rear differential. Not a failure issue, but one could say a design issue. It was really an annoyance to me as there was way more slop in the differential than there should have been.

On the other hand, the spark plug issues that Ford has been having is really inexcusable, they have known about it for years and have done nothing about it. To pull a plug after 20K miles only to have it snap off because of a shitty design is just plain bullshit, but to blindly say that Chevy hasn’t had it same share of issues they hide is delusional.

Anyways, enjoy what you have…it’s all good, unless it is a POS then go after the SOB who built it after smoking weed at lunch! :(:(

Jrt is definitely correct. I do love me delusion however. I, too have had a good Ford but I had four crappy ones including one that blew up in Blythe resulting in my buying this Silverado.

When I had my last Ford with a German Vulcan engine, Auto Zone had a coffee cup with my name on it, I was there so much. I never knew what color fluid I would see pouring out of it on any given day. They don't even know me now.

I backed out of a parking space one day and there were seagulls stuck in the oil from it. Looked like the Exxon Valdez.

LOL Just my highly prejudiced opinion. I did say that I was a GM guy.

The failure is catastrophic but I don't think the failure rate is catastrophic. Ford has stuffed these engines in multiple models starting in what- 92 or 94? But given how you clearly have an anti-Ford bias I am wasting my time trying to have an intelligent discussion. Both my prior GM trucks were pieces of junk, through and through yet I don't go around hemorrhaging the garbage you do about GM like you do Ford. If Ford's modular engines were as bad as you make them out to be, Ford would've been the one on the verge of death and taking taxpayer dollars, not GM.

JRT,

The weed smoker at lunch might have taken his time building that new car but I promise it was well put togther. At least with the parts he could find. lol

Well you did say you were a GM fan, but your words strike me as someone who is reasonable...I could be wrong though. :(

There are many others who bleed one color or another and to me that is just pointless.
