I have a 2001 chevy silverado 1500 with a 4800 vortec engine. it starts and idels fine but when ever i give it gas, the engine starts to sputter and dies. ive already changed the fuel filter and spark plug wires. Im going to be moving across the country in a month and i need my truck to pull my stuff. does anybody have any ideas on what to do now?

You need to figure out if it's throwing codes? Could be a throttle position sensor without knowing anything else.

Hey i had a 2000 with the 4.8 i kinda had the same problem. Mine was the idle air control valve. Iac would make it idle bad then die at every red light and stop sign. You should be able to check it with ohm meter. If u replace it im allmost certain youll have to do a relearn procedure. Its all pretty simple though

+1 on the fuel pump. If it's never been changed, I'm affraid that could be your problem. How many miles?

its got 186000. i think its the original fuel pump in it. the sending unit has been going in and out since i bought it 4 years ago.

Well, since the sending unit and the pump are both part of the same assembly, and considering the miles, I'd say you've found the problem. Unfortunately, a new pump is some bucks but it's better than having your truck crap out on a long trip.
