2000 Z71 Action Packed With Issues

Recommended Posts

The truck is a 2000 Silverado LT Z71, it has 85000 miles on it.

Issue #1 We just replaced all rotors and calipers (the calipers we tried to bleed them cause of spongy brake pedal and the bleeders all broke GO CHEVY) and pads. we bleed and bleed until no air at all corners and we have no brake pedal. We tried a master from another truck and same result. What gives???

Issue #2 At random times the truck will crank and not start, you leave it for half hour and it fires right up like nothing was ever wrong. This will randomly happen on a restart after just running before and once in a while at the end of a day of work and need to get a ride home from a co worker who drives a dodge diesel who loves every minute of it.

Issue #3 no heat in the truck, the heat gauge shows normal heat, the 2 lines going to heater core are hot, if the truck sits in the shop the air coming out of vents will get toasty hot, you put the damn thing out in the freezing cold and the heat disappears. I blew air thru the heater core its free of obstructions, I changed the thermostat with an oem one, I now have a piece of card board in front of the rad to try to maintain some heat in the cab.

I have lots more issues but these are the ones that are pissing me off and keeping me from driving it right now.

PLEASE HELP

Thanks guys

#1 Could possibly have some air trapped in the brake pressure modulator valve(abs motor assembly). Would need a scan tool to actuate the valves.

#2 Sounds like fuel pressure regulator is leaking. On drivers side of engine, mounted on fuel rail and has a vacuum line going to it. Remove the vacuum line and check for fuel. If any fuel is present, or smells like fuel, replace the regulator.

#3 Sounds like the heater core is plugged up. Remove both heater core hoses from the engine and flush with a garden hose back and forth till you get clean water out. Don't forget to check your freeze level when done.

if you bought new aftermarket calipers you cant blame Chevy for broken bleeders just the quality of the bleeders and obviosuly your skill as any mechanically inclined person would know when your about to break a bolt....anyway it probably has to be bleed using a tech tool, do you have pressure at all in your lines with the bleeders closed or do you have no brake pedal at all during bleeding?

when you changed the thermostat did you bleed all the air out of the system?

+1, had the same issue on my 2000.

$50 and about 10 min of your time will fix this
