Worked On My Truck Today

Got to work to work on the sierra and one of the porters left the hose on overnight and the entire garage had 2 inches of water on the floor :) anyways. Heres what I accomplished

Drained, flushed and refilled cooling system, also back flushed the heater core

New radiator cap

New thermostat (FINALLY HEAT)

flushed power steering. It is no longer a mud like substance.

Normal slip yoke lubrication

new a/c belt. I need my accessory belt too, but i no longer have that damn squeak anymore

drained and refilled front and rear diff

greased all fittings, including u-joints which are aftermarket. Stock ones dont come with zerk fittings i didnt think.

Now that im all ambitious about getting stuff done, i still need a blower motor, resistor, balance tires, drain and refill t-case, drain and refill trans, get left rear bleeder screw unseized, accessory belt, and maybe spark plugs. Not sure if they are new or not.

I do have a question, though. How much fluid needs replacing when you drain and refill a 4l60? By just using the drain plug, not including the tc. And how much fluid will the t-case take? Its a NP if that helps.

I believe its 5-6 quarts when you drain the pan. However i would recommend changing all of it or having the system flushed, because once you change the fluid in the pan and start your engine the old fluid in the torque converter will contaminate the fresh. But it does depend on the condition of the oil, does it smell fresh, or does it smell like burnt toast? Nice truck by the way!

Thank you gentlemen! Yes the reason im only doing a drain and refill is the history is unknown on my 200k+ mile trans. It couldve been flushed, it could be new. Fluid is red with a slight brown hue, so its still in great shape. Thanks for the complements as well.
