I dont know man......... my dads 2010 4 door 4x4 king ranch with the 5.4L averages 19.8mpg. Mine averages 16.8. Now i do a little more stop and go than he does but not a whole lot. and his driving is a lot like mine...... punch on it every now and then, and some what spirited all other times. Mine has 61k miles his already has 48k. keep in mind he got it in nov of 09. Also his is WAY smoother than mine and mine is a 4x2 while his is a 4x4. My take on my next truck...... now with ford having a 6.2L is i will go test drive a ford and a gmc, both crew cabs, both 4x4, and both with the 6.2's and determine then. then being in a year and a half

In my honest opinion...... its only a battle between ford and gm. EVER. Unless we are talking about a diesel. Then i want a cummins motor in a ford body with the allison tranny :(

That's a pretty biased video, being Ford promotional material and all.

Yea.. For some reason I can't see them saying there truck sucked and needed to go back to the drawing board..

It looks a little biased but what will these 4 trucks look like after 5 years and 60000 miles?

What do 05 and 06 trucks look like today? I am sure if the past has taught us anything is that the gm,s look better than the others after time. My old 98 gm looked better than dodge and ford when it was 12 years old than they did at 6 years old. Think of what a 98 dodge and 98 ford looks like today... But with that said I am thinking my new gm already looks worse than my old 98 as this new one has rust so this argument may have no merit..

anyone that puts on the test for THEIR truck will make it biased. lol thats why i want to do my own test. what do you think dealers would do if i asked to test drive their trucks and took them all to the same place to rag on? :sigh:

To a point I'd bet the bumps are wheelbase optimized for the Ford but maybe there really is something to putting the shocks outside the leafs? It may not have real world benefits but it might make the truck do better here. And I already know the Toyota would have a spaghetti frame based on how my Tacoma was.

90 percent of truck consumers have already made up their minds about which truck is best before even considering any of the facts. In fact, it's amazing how people already know which 2014 model will be the best. When you buy a truck (or car, or anything) you've got to tell your inner fanboy to scram so you can make an informed decision. Test drive everything you can, research online with as much time as you can spare and buy what meets your needs best. Dodge/Ford/Toyota and GM all have pros and cons.

One thing that is not up for debate is the fact that the Ford's boxed frame has always dominated. The suspension tests make plenty of sense because we all know how bad the Tundra's been on bad pavement (ie youtube vid of the tundra almost falling apart over expansion joints filmed by a pissed off owner). The fuel test could be manipulated easily by modulation of the accelerator (if you notice it was a loop with some stop and go) the handling test as well can be easily manipulated by the driver's turning in harder on the competition. Notice there were no acceleration or passing tests (because the ford is DEFINATELY the slowest). The trailer sway testis just something you can't figure out because if the driver gets off the gas at the exact time of the semi passing the truck but stays in it a second longer on the Ford then the Ford has an advantage... Only test I trust was the washboard test. those results looked right to me, the rest is BS.

PS. For those that didn't know I have acces to every truck in the test but the Toyota and it says something that i've been choosing the 4.7 Ram over the Ford and Chevy for the last 2+years, it rides like a car and handles almost as good as one (my job is to be in that truck almost 8 hrs a day driving, idling hauling light to moderate loads.) Only reason i choose the Ram over the Chevy is the coil springs in the rear and the stock height, the Dodge is as tall as our F250, the Silvy's sit on the ground. The Ford's are just to slow for me, the interiors are HUGE but the seats aren't as comfortable as the Ram's or Chevy's though..

If i could mix and match best parts of these trucks it would be Ford's roomy cab with the Ram's seats and Dash, Ram crew body 5.3 6spd from the Chevy.. I dislike the Tundra and it wouldn't even be in the conversation if i did have access to one like i do the other three.

Curious why you choose the 4.7 over the HEMI?

You're right about people and brand loyalty and about pros and cons of each. Like Johnny Cash, I've been everywhere though. I've owned Chevys, Fords, and just came out of a Tundra. Overall, I've been the most pleased with my GM trucks. Here comes my long ramble:

I just traded my 07 Tundra. It had its strong points. Super power with the 5.7 and descent fuel economy, I averaged between 16 & 17 if I "behaved." I do believe the frame is/was a weak point on the Toyotas. When I test drove a double cab in 2007 I noticed the bed hop on a concrete bridge. You could literally see the bed vibrate up and down. On the crewmax I wound up buying I never saw it. I guess more weight was centered toward the rear axle. I had some minor problems. Warped front rotors at 30K, a bad radio that had to be replaced, armrest cover that came unsewed, a torque converter that clunked continuously on downshifts, but no major issues and never left on the side of the road. I didn't like the oil change system (cartridge) on the Tundra and the fact that you had to argue with a 50lb shield and remove it to get to the filter. I wound up letting the dealer do maintenance; I didn't like that, but at least they were reasonable around $33 for 7.6 quarts of oil and filter. My biggest complaint with the yota was the 4x4 system. I didn't feel like it was as capable as the systems I had in my GM or Ford trucks for that matter, but I did always get where I was going. Is the Tundra as bad as the Big 3 fanboys would have you believe? Absolutely not. Would I ever consider a Tundra again....maybe but not this time.

As for Ford. I SERIOUSLY considered them this time. They make a VERY solid truck, but they weren't as ready to deal as Chevy. They wanted quite a bit more $$$ for a '10 than GM did for my '11. Also the 2010 Fords still had the 5.4 and while it was a solid motor my gas mileage experience was not that great with that motor in previous trucks. The new Ford 2011 motor packages were very tempting with performance and gas mileage, but like I said the Ford dealers were exceptionally proud of their 2011's and wouldn't deal.

I really liked the looks of the Ram, but two things kept me from seriously considering them, one real, one perceived. The two local Dodge dealers were anything but helpful. I actually made 3 trips and never got as far as a test drive, so I had no "push" to consider one. Also, my only experience with Dodge trucks came through my Dad who owned a Dakota in the mid 90's....not pleasant memories. I don't know if I really could ever consider one seriously. (I know a lot has changed since then, but perceptions are hard to break) I know the Ram is supposed to be smooth and I know the Hemi would have great power, BUT I just couldn't bring myself to go there. I was just raised to know that DODGE stood for Dead On Day Guarantee Expires. Call me close-minded.

Anyway that left me with GM. Some things that made me go GM, again. First the powertrain 5.3 has been good to me in the past. It's a proven design that I've had little trouble with in the past. The current truck is in its fifth year of production, so the kinks should be worked out. (I've had two first year trucks a 97 Ford, and the 07 Tundra-first year models do have more issues in my opinion) The gas mileage of the 5.3 is better and with $4 gas on the horizon, the Chevy made more sense there. Also, I consider the GM 4x4 system to be the best of the OEM designs. I know the G80 locker isn't bulletproof, but added in the with GM 4x4 system I believe it is the most capable factory system of all the major manufacturers. (My 04 Silverado would almost do in 2wd what my Tundra struggled with in 4x4.) Local dealer is literally 1/2 mile from my job (even though I didn't buy from them) and they are really good about service, at least in the past. So overall I guess I'm brand loyal too. This is my fourth GM truck. To me, the Chevy/GMC is the most well rounded of the trucks. Good ride quality, descent power, best gas mileage, good build quality, the best 4x4 system, dealer support, and most for the money. (Oh one more plus for the Chevy truck ownership experience-GM-trucks.com) :sigh:
