Adding Limited Slip?

Hi Everyone,

 

I have a question. I have a 1994 GMC Sierra 1500 with the 3.73 (GT4) 10 bolt rear end. It does not have teh G80 option for limited slip differential. I'd like to add this to my truck, is it possible to just swap out the gears in the rear end or is it more cost effective to just locate a rear end with the option from a junk yard and swap out the rear end? The junk yards are getting around $350-$500 for rear ends w/ the GT4 and G80 options.

 

If anyone has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Glenn welcome to the site. Yes you can swap the gears in the rear, just remove the ring gear and spider gear assembly, and swap it with a G80 locker. To be honest i would just keep an eye out for a parts truck on craigslist or something for a locker, and swap axles. Just make sure the locker is 3:73, because the locker was availible in 3:42 and 4:10 as well. You will notice a huge differance in traction with the G80, im hoping to do it in my truck soon too.
