Service Air Bag

I havent been driving my truck much lately. I like to keep the snow and salt off of it and also with the price of gas at 3.15 a gallon my accord is cheaper to run. I do run the truck though ever week or two even if its just a few miles down the road.

Well.. Now that its been sitting today when i went to start it up and run it i noticed that the DIC says "service air bag". I have never had any other issues with the truck, and I guess with something like this there isnt much warning regarding an airbag/sensor issue.

Is this a common problem is there an easy fix? Also the truck has 52,000 miles on it now so would this issue be out of warranty? I am certainly not paying to fix this if it needs a major fix.

anyone with any ideas or experiences with this?

Whats a dead horse... service the airbag? I didnt realize it was a common problem. I have been on this board for years now and i dont recall reading a lot of posts about it.. Admittedly however I did not do a quick search, nor do i frequent the "ask the gm tech" forum either because my truck never seems to have problems..

it not you ,just the timimg of a few guys saying "my light is on ,whats wrong"?

I think it has something to do with being cold.. I read something about that, and then Im thinkin about it my truck has been sitting for weeks in the snow and ice and i only start it for a few minutes everyonce in a while. I also think the light went away after i drove it up the road 2 miles and back.

I think it has something to do with the front air bag impact sensor getting water in it, there were many of these cases, with the first gmt-900 that came out. Many people had to have them replaced under warranty, and even if it's out they should still replace it, I would think out of kindness because it is a safety device.

The crazy thing is i just talked to my dad the other day and he said he had his vehicle (a dodge) in for a service air bag light too! The wierder thing is we both have nearly identical mileage (52,000) and they just replaced his at dodge for free, even though his warranty has expired. (his was an '06) I am hoping that GM will do the same thing. if they dont i will raise hell about it. I just have a real hard time accepting when things that never get used breaks...

I understand when a starter goes or alternator, or a window motor, or wiper switch, etc etc, but for stupid shit like an airbag sensor that to go that I didnt personally wear out or even use for that matter, that doesnt sit well with me.
