Passenger Side Mirror Hinge Failure

Recommended Posts

So I was folding both side view mirrors in (manual) to pull into a narrow garage opening and something in the hinge mechanism "let go" and now its loose and does not stay in place. Any ideas? Do I have to replace the entire mirror assembly or is there some sort of spring or hinge inside that can be replaced? Thanks!

This happened to my '02 YukonXL....the dealer had to replace the entire housing just the inside mechanism doesn't come seperately.

Good luck though.....you never know.

Did that include the mirror and power unit as well? I was looking on ebay. Found complete mirror/housing assemblies pretty cheap. Don't know the quality of them, though.

You may be able to repair it. On my 2001, i had the same thing happen so I removed it to have a look. Simply put, there's a compression type ring that fits over the "post" and holds the spring down. I removed the mirror from the front, and the "shell" off the back to gain access and was able to re-compress it using a scrap piece of pipe. Took no time at all.
