Overheating After Remocing Brush Guard ?

I just read in the manual if you remove your brush guard ( the plastic guard under your front bumper) that you truck may overheat ?

 

Is that true ?

Tons of people have done with no issues. I dont figure how it would cause overheating. You will get more airflow (cooling) if anything.

what would the plastic underneath the bumper have anything to do with the engine over heating? i wouldn't worry about it

I don't think I'm gonna worry about it.. Unless it somehow pushes air up into the radiator or something I dunno ..

mine is off with no issue, truck looks much better and I don't scrape parking curbs anymore

Never heard of our trucks overheating, but had a friend in high school whose Trans Am overheated after it was torn off.

Lots of snow up here so dealer recommended I remove mine to avoid having it damaged...

It acts as an air dam and deflects air causing a low pressure area behind the bumper. This creates a larger pressure differential forcing more air to move through the grill and into the engine bay. So in theory, it could cause less air flow and might become an issue during highway trailering or something. That being said, I removed mine and love the look with out it. I got almost 3 inches of clearance back and it looks great.

You will likely not over heat but this was discussed in another post. The guard is there to create low pressure behind the radiator so at highway speeds air is forced through it allowing the engine fan to remain "off" to help with gas mileage and cooling.
