No 4 Wheel Drive!

I have an 08 Silverado 1500 4x4 with 26000 miles on it. Today I put the dash switch for the 4 wheel drive function in 4 wheel high.About an hour later I find the truck spinning the rear wheels but nothing from the front.The switch was not touched but it went out of 4 wheel drive and then a message comes on the DIC display " SERVICE 4 WHEEL DRIVE". Anyone give me any ideas of what is wrong with the 4 wheel drive? I tired moving the switch later and now its back in 4 wheel high and am afaid to move it again as I don't want it back into 2 wheel until this snow goes.Its still under warranty. Thanks in advance.

I had that happen when it was really cold once. It was in my 08 sierra 1500

I had a similar issue once (due to me unplugging the switch when I was installing my new stereo). I let the truck sit overnight till the computer reset and have not had any issues since. I would try to switch it, it might have been a one time thing. If you are really worried about it just take it to the dealer and switch it in their parking lot. that way if it doesn't work you can leave it there. LOL

The switch (big round knob on the dash) is likely bad. They are known to fail...
