Any Tsbs For Glovebox Rattle On 2010?

My lower glovebox has a nasty rustling scratching sound. It goes away instantly when I lower the glovebox door. I've tried lubing the latch and don't see anything rubbing. I was hoping maybe somebody else has already figured this out and fixed it. I'm going to take it to the dealer if I can't fix it myself but the rattle is kind of intermittant and I'm worried it won't do it when the tech looks at it.

Are you sure its not the stuff in the glove box making the noise, if not then try adjusting the latch or striker bar if that dont work the go get some of those little rubber stick on pads to make it fit tight around the edges of the box lip.

Yeah, the previous fix only worked for a couple of weeks. I've already tried adding some rubber weathersripping at the places where the rubber bumpers touch and that didn't work. Of course everything was emptied from the glovebox right away to rule that out. I guess there's no official TSB.

The glovebox door appears to be 2 layers - maybe there's some movement between them. I'm going to drop the door, remove the hinge screws and bring it inside, then undo the screws for the latch and look around. If removing the glovebox door from the dash stops the rattle I might just drive it like that. Rattles really, really irritate me. I can live with bad gas mileage or weird handling but I have to sell a vehicle with a rattle if I can't fix it somehow. I've done it before.

Not to put a band aid on a bullet wound, but put your stuff in thereand then throw a clean dish towelor shop rag just to get a compression of it when you close the glove box.

Worked on my 78 and 79 broncos with metal gloveboxes and metal dashes. Then you also have a handy towel.

This will also kind of tell you where the noise might be coming from, depending on if it cures the problem or not.

Thanks for that tip. I tried a different method to get the "compression" but it didn't help. I got some small pieces of black foam rubber weatherstripping and stuck them on the glovebox door where they would hit the factory rubber closure bumpers. When I did it I was totally confident that would solve the problem but it didn't do anything.

Yesterday I wrapped a small piece of cloth around the horizontal bar that the latch grabs and it worked for the rest of the drive but I've found everything I try seems to work at first then the noise comes back after a couple days. It's a good thing I'm not trying to earn a living as a mechanic. None of my ideas work very well.

Bringing closure to this thread. After completely removing the lower glovebox door and discovering the scratching noise was still there I gave up and took it to the dealer. Of course the noise stopped about half way down there. I explained what was going on and why the glovebox door was missing and asked them whether they could work on it since the noise was gone at that moment. I was kind of surprised when he said they would look at it. I told them I'd give the mechanic a $20 tip if he fixed it.

After a couple of hours the truck was done and the ticket said the tech found a loose bolt at the end of the dashboard. The noise seems to be gone and I'm going back down to the dealership tomorrow to give them the $20. This is the thrid time I've needed to have them fix a rattle or squeek. While I'm a little dissapointed in GM for not screwing the truck together better I'm pretty happy with my dealership. They've successfully fixed it everytime.
