Haggle Room When Buying A Shell/camper/topper/cap

Looking to purchase something like the Leer 100xr or Snugtop Raider for my Silverado soon. Has anybody had luck negotiating with dealers on these? The local guy budged about...well.... none. I can't swing $1800 for one

For a quality cap, your gonna shell out about $1800. Don't talk to the truck dealer, go to a truck accessory shop. The dealer buys from them, so they are just gonna tack on money for them to make some cash too.

I was able to get $250 off my Leer at a local truck accy joint, However the company I work for gets all our truck stuff there, But that still shows how much they "can" move. ;)

Same thing around here. They do not want to negotiate on camper shell prices. As mentioned, finding a good used shell may be the best way to go. Unfortunately, finding one that matches your truck color will be hard unless you get lucky.

Well, I'm a painter (aviation) and can get the paint ordered, and have a full booth and nice guns so I can do that if I have to. My truck is Taupe Grey Metallic, so i figure the chances of finding a used one in that color are about 0%. I cant even find a used one in any color for a NNBS Extended cab with the 6.5' bed

Craigslist shows 0 that will fit a 07+ Silverado Extended cab within 400 miles

Yeah, I know, this can be frustrating. I remember I was looking for a used one for my truck a while back, and when I finally found one that fit, it was in Washington State (I am in Florida).

Just keep looking.

I just emailed every owner or dealer of a similar truck on CL that was selling a truck with a shell, to see if they will part with the shell :o

I was looking at a no name brand and a Raider. The Raider was more expensive by $350.00. I went in and told the sales person to tell me why I should pay an extra $350.00 for his canopy. He took great pains to explain how it was built and what features it had that I might not have noticed. It was very refreshing to have a salesman know more about his product than I did! I decided to buy it and he gave me about $100.00 off without me asking. ie $1750ish installed and painted to match my truck.

This past Friday, I was able to talk my dealer into $150 off on a Leer 100XR by casually mentioning that I had prices from a dealer 98 miles away.

The base 100XR was only 1399 painted and installed on my 2009 Crew Cab.

One place in town will come off their ad prices. Others will not. I bought a backflip, Rhino liner and mudflaps (different stuff but same idea). The more I bought the more he came off. I also made it obvious that I was shopping around. I went straight up with "This is what he said. What can you do?"
