Gas Gauge Shows 1/4 after fillup :(

[Load*,8,1]

Well I was running very low on gas, just didn't pay attention to the gauge. Nearly ran out.  Made it to a station and filled up to the tip top.

 

Get in my truck and the gauge reads 1/4.  While it was filling I got some change out my car for a coke and noticed it was 1/4 about halfway through the filling and figured it'd catch up later.  It didn't.

 

Now 3 hours later, it still shows 1/4  

 

What do I do?

i was so excited this morning cuz when i started my truck the gauge went to full.

 

when i got off of work and started it, the gauge was again stuck at 1/4

 

argh my truck can be such a pain sometimes

Sounds like you need a new sending unit installed in the tank.  Or possibly the float may have gone bad.  Of course, it might be the gauge but if you've seen it register full then I think it's the sending unit.

 

Not an easy job because the tank needs to be drained before it is removed.  Do you have a repair manual?  Haynes or Chilton?  If not and you decide to undertake the chore yourself, you may want to invest in one.
