2007 New Body Style, Knocking From Rear Door

Just joined, New member.

Purchased a 2007 New Body Style Silverado 1500, 5.3lt, 2WD, Extended cab last month and Im getting a knocking sound, when going over bumps, coming from the passenger side rear door. The door is definetly closed tight. All it sounds like is something loose.

Is there anything I can check before I bring it in to a body shop ? It almost sounds like the rear seat belt is banging the plastic, but its not. Could it be the actual macanism inside by the seatbelt loose? Rear window housing ?

Thanks for any help

It only occurs when going over bumps

There is a bulletin for this. Rich had it and I think sent it to me. I will check my email tonight and let you know.

The only thing I could find had to do with the Crew cab only

All this reading about the 5.3 AFM, gets me worried. Just bought a 2007 Silverado 5.3AFM I hope I dont have to sell

I had this issue on mine and thought it sounded like the seatbelt as well. I finally figured out that the back part of the seat was loose. I took mine in and sure enough the bar that locks into place when the seat is down was broken. The back part behind the drivers seat on mine is not broken but if I fold my seat up and do not slam it back down hard it will make the same rattle sound. So with your seat down grab the back part and see if you can shake it or wiggle it, if so there is your problem. If not, then im useless :)

Mine was the striker on the extended cab door that the front door latches to. The striker pin was loose, and would move in and out between the striker plate and door sheet metal. It produced a knock over small bumps.

#PIT4679A: Creak Chirp Or Rattle Noise At Door Over Bumps - keywords body drivers front left passenger pillar rear right striker - (Apr 24, 2009)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some owners may comment of a creak type noise heard while driving over rough roads or body twist. This concern may occur at any of the side doors and may sound like it is from the door, "B", or "C" Pillar area. On Extended Cab Pickup Models, the owner complaint may be a chirping or rattle that seems to be coming from the top of the rear quarter door or upper seat belt anchor loop area. This concern could be caused by the door striker, as shown below. When the striker is loaded with any up/down motion, a creak noise is produced from the area where the striker pin interfaces with the stamping hole at the head of the pin, as shown below. The door striker pin may not have adequate peening of the pin head causing insufficient "filling" of metal in the stamping hole. If the striker is removed and installed at the opposite side door, the noise will move to that side.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Replace the door striker.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

I actually did not change mine. I "tweaked" the metal on the striker to put tension on the pin. It hasn't knocked since. Two bolts attach the striker plate to the door. The bolts are torx head. Sorry, but I don't have pix available. When you open the front door, look at the area where the door latch handle is for the extended cab door that you pull on to open the door. The striker is near the handle.

Thanks. I will take a look at and see if I can tweak it a bit
