True Duel Exhaust 2009 Silverado

I've been planning on getting true dual exhaust for my truck so i took it by a few shops today to get quoted a price. I am being told that they cant do it because of the flex pipe right behind where the pipes y after coming off the catalytic converters. Anybody ran into this problem? I have a buddy with an 08 and he told me they just cut his off and replaced it with a staight pipe. IMG_0086.jpg

2008s had a different configuration than the 2009 trucks. The 2008 models didn't have the 3rd cat. Shops can't legally change the factory cats or their locations, so they are correct that they can't do a true dual exhaust on your truck. Better question is, why do you want true dual exhaust?

Simply because its louder and gives the truck more horse power. Not that i do anything that requires more power. I already have too pipes coming off the rear from one magnaflow muffler (like that when i purchased it).. so i figure why not make it true. What is the reason for having a third cat?

It is purely for lowering emissions to meet the regulations. And I would tend to agree that true dual exhaust shouldn't give any power advantage over a single exhaust with a good flowing muffler.

thanks for the input fellas great leaning experience for me. May look into not messing with it or getting a better muffler.

Don't see what removing the flex/expansion joint would have to do with it. Most aftermarket cat-back systems do away with it. For example, Dynomax:

It could potentially damage the exhaust system from what i was told. The flex pipe reduces the amount of movement and vibrations. But after leaving i learned they would probably cut that off if i wanted, its the cat they wont mess with.
