What would cause 3 fuel pumps to go within 6 months?

The first time I replaced the pump with one that was not "OEM". Yes I was chided for doing so. Please understand on a limited income I could not afford a standard fuel pump at nearly $500.00. even from Autozone. I tried all the diagnostics I could perform. That one failed in a month. I then replaced Just the pump with a better one. All was well for around another 6 weeks. Then the truck left me sitting on a higway far from home.

So I am wondering what the heck is going on. I will point out we own two 2000 model trucks, one Bravada, one Sonoma. The Bravada has had no issues with fuelpumps.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks in advance

Yes I changed the fuel filter after the first pump failed. Checked all the wires, replaced the relay. When replacing the fuel pump I observed no junk in the tank, and the pump filter bags had nothing clogging them.
