I'm from Upstate NY, lots of salt around here. My 07 Classic brake lines looked like new last fall, but my tranny lines had already rotted through, and required replacing!!!! I've never seen them fail that quickly.....

My brake lines lasted 6 years (almost exactly) and 60K miles before one blew. I had my car hauler trailer on behind truck and used the electric brakes on the trailer to get the truck home. I have all stainless steel lines on it now.

I don't understand, how the industry gets away with this! Why aren't all brake lines either SS, or plastic/vinyl coated or powder-coated.???

They can do it..I would rather have the best brake lines ...and maybe I wouldn't need onstar or triple A, or airbags.

The car industries motto,"you'll eventually stop somewhere" isn't good enuf anymore.

It really seems to depend on vehicle to vehicle. My '00 Sierra looks like it's real close to losing all brakes from several points on the lines being extremely rusty. Once it's warm I'm going to clean them up and coat them with something. Had a '96 Sonoma that lost the rear brakes from a line developing a pinhole. Wish the manufacturers would take the initiative and do it right.

my front brake lines collapsed becasause i let my brake pads get to low. had about 60,000 miles on it when that happened.

i found this a while ago and have not seen a update to this.. i can understand the rubber pieces going bad after quite a few years, but the steal lines SHOULD last the life of the vehicle, under normal use. i guess someone wanted to save a few cents per vehicle and go cheap on materials..
