Fuel Issue 01 Tahoe

2001 Tahoe 5.3L 2wd 170k miles, Took a 1200 mile road trip and all was good. Get home colder wet conditions.

Truck hard to start, cranks strong, wont idle very long. Idles about 700 rpm on the guage then starts dropping and

stalls out. Usually within a minute or less. If I give it throttle, it responds slowly and boggs or stalls out.

If I feather the throttle I do get some response. After a few trys of this, it will crank but not start. When I

get lucky and it warms up, it seems to run fine. No codes for now. It did have p0300 and the two lean bank codes

but I borrowed a scanner and cleared those a few days ago because I thought wife ran it out of fuel in drive way.

After adding enough gas it started, but after filling at station I realized it had about 7 gallons in it when I

thought it was empty. I can hear the fuel pump growl. I have cycled the key 2-3 times before start to see if that

helps, doesn't seem to. When trying to crank, has rich smell at exhaust. When I can get it out of driveway and down

street it drives fine at all speeds and at stops at lights. I am an amature at mechanically, body guy by trade.

Thanks for any help.

First thing I would check would be fuel pressure. Only takes a minute if you can get a gauge.

+1

From there, look into fuel filter

fuel pressure regulator

fuel pump

Key on Engine off 55 -62 psi
