Need Tire Advice 275/55-20

I'm currently running the oem Eagle LS-2's with 34K and I dont think they will make it through another inspection. Does anyone have any experience with the listed tires or any others to add to the discussion. I'm looking for an all season tire. I very seldom go off road but do have to deal with snow 3 months out of the year. Talking to the local tire guy he recomends the Michelin MS2's which are more expensive than any other tire. But I'm all for paying more to get more. The other tires I'm considering are BFG Longtrail, and the Bridgestone alenza. Does anyone have any expericene with any of these tires.

Cooper Zeon LTZ's are an AT tire that will get you close to 50,000 miles or more with good rotation. I'm currently running a set and like them. I'm considering the 305's next time.

I have a set of the Michelin LTX AT/2's on mine and I just checked their tread depth last week when I rotated them. After just a tick over 36,000 miles, they have only lost approximately 3/32 of tread depth. I drive fairly hard and tow occationaly so take that for what it is worth. I love them as far as traction and driveablility go also. Much better than any of the BFG's that I've ever had (and I've had about 6 sets of BFG AT's over the years on ALL of my previous trucks) even in the mud and slop. The on road ride is more quiet and confident than the BFG's I've had also.

 

I just put a set of Michelin LTX MS/2's on the GF's Jeep GC this past fall also. She has had it sense it was almost new and has never been more confident driving in winter weather than she is now, with these tires. She raves about them everytime the snow and slop fell this past winter. She has just over 6,000 miles on them and most of the nubs are still on the tread of the tires. She's no lightweight on the gas pedal or with speed in general either, mind you. Matter of fact, I had no idea that a JGC could even DO a 1g lateral turn until I rode with this woman. No joke.

 

Also, everytime we have an issue within the dealership with something related to tires (vibration, wear, etc) we install Michelin tires and the problem no longer exisits.

 

Just some personal first hand observations and food for thought.

the Michelin's are probably the best all season tire ever made! perfect for street use, great in the snow, and will last for at least 70,000 miles!

 

my dad has them on his 2004 silverado. he replaced the OEM's at 40,000 miles and put these on. a couple years ago he had to replace all four at 115,000 miles. last time i was home visiting them, his truck had 160,000 miles and the tires still looked fairly new! just rotate them every 8-10,000 miles and they will last a long time!

 

when you rotate your tires, i always recommend to cross the front to the rear, and bring the rears straight forward like this:

 

i worked in a tire shop for 4 years when i was in high school and in college, so i got to handle quite a few of these in my day.

I'm deffinetely leaning more towards the Michelin's. I just dont want to overpay for the name. The reviews on tire rack seam to be consistently positive with the Bridgestone Alenza's not to far behind. However going with the Michelins will cost about $275 more.

saw plenty of that with bridgestone's too back when i changed tires for a living.

 

i honestly cannot remember seeing one blown out michelin. seen plenty of bridgestone, general, toyo, kumho, one or two goodyears and coopers, but never a Michelin, bf goodrich, or Pirelli.

The only problem with the Michelin LTX AT/2 they don't come in the stock tire size (275/55R20) that the OP is using.

 

275/60R20

285/55R20

 

If I'm not mistaken, without suspension modifications, they may rub when turning tight.

I thought that too, but Tire rack lists 275/55r20's unless thats an error.

I believe that he was asking about the MS/2's and they do come in the factory 55 aspect ratio.

 

I plan on getting a set of '08 Silverado 20" wheels for my '11, if I take it when it comes in, and putting a set of the AT/2 275/60R20's on them for summer tires. I'll put a set of Bizzak's on the factory Z-71 wheels for the winter.

Anyway I'm running 275/55R20 Goodyear Fortera TripleTreads and they've been great in snow, even off road. Treadwear has been decent and they're quiet, no complaints.

However, oddly enough, both Tirerack and Goodyear only show the Fortera's up to 18". They may have discontinued the 20" Fortera's?

Just put on a set of Michelin AT/2 on my 09 Silverado CC. Replaced a set of Revos that I got 28K miles on before they wore out. Liked the Revos but mileage was terrible and I rotate every oil change. The AT/2s are 275/60/20 and I have a 2" leveling kit. I did take a heat gun to the splash shields on both sides and tweaked them to give me a little extra clearance but they don't rub. Quieter than the Revos, ride and handle well and they seem to have less roling resistance. Not as aggressive looking as the Revo but still have a bit of edge to them.
