Need Tire Advice - 2008 2500hd

Hey all, first post here.

I have a 2008 2500HD with the 6 liter vortec and the stock rims and stock 245-75/16 tires. It's got a 4:10 rear end, if that matters for tire size. They are at the end of life, and look ridiculous...they look like hot-wheel tires!

I'd like to go with the biggest "recommended" tire that will fit on the stock(I think) 6" rim. It's a stock work-truck trim level, 2WD.

When i go to tire rack / discount tire websites, they only seem to go up to 265-75/16 which still seems like a pretty narrow tire.

Can I safely go to a 265-70 or 65? I'm mainly towing a 4000' boat with it, so I'm pretty sure I could get away with a D load tire, although there seem to be plenty of E tires in the 265/75 size.

What say you truck tire experts?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

The search function will help a lot. This question gets asked like twice a day.

The factory HD rims are pretty narrow, at 6.5 in. A 265/75/16 will be a little taller and wider than stock, but not a whole lot. Plenty of guys run 285/75/16's on HD trucks and they look really good. The first number in the tire size is the width in millimeters, and 285's are about the limit on those 16x6.5 factory wheels.
