Need Some Opinions On My Options.

A few fella's have helped me out on here and it is much appreciated.

I am putting a 3" lift spindle on my truck, package also comes with 2" rear blocks, but will deal with the slight cali lean for now.

I have a p265/70/17 highway tire on right now.

I am debating on putting a bigger A/T tire on, a 285/70/17, or go for same size with a 265/70/17mickey thompson baja mtz. ANy thoughts or opinions on this?

Some people will say I will lose nothing or slightly 1-2 mpg, going from 265 to 285 which isnt much but I am a long distance, somewhat broke at times, college kid.lol, and i can feel those mpg. But will a same size tire as I am running now, although heavier, hurt mpg just as much as jumping to 285?

Thank's fellas

God Bless

Yes, a heavier tire will hurt the mileage some. And If you go with the 285's, you'll want your PCM programmed so your speedo and shift points match up. Otherwise, your speedo will report wrong and your mileage will be off making it impossible to calc your mileage anyways correctly.

ok...so was that a vote for the 285? lol

I have a SuperChips flashPaq tuner, it can be done with this right?

Also I have never updated it since I have gotten it, (i heard there are possible online updates) do I need to do this?

Yes, Superchips programmer can update the tire size of your choice. Being a 2wd, I believe the 285's are gonna be tight even with the 3" lift but should fit with minor trimming. Be sure to look on the superchips website and see what the updates are to your current software version. Sometimes the updates aren't pertaining to your truck and not necessary.

285 is 32.7"

265 is 31.6"

Almost a full 1" smaller. If you don't care about loosing mileage, I say go for the 285's :uhoh:

Well as of right now with my 700 mile round trip I do care about mpg, but this trip will only be made maybe 4 more times, but with gas prices out here in west Tx darn near $4's thats tough. Do you think a beefer m/t with the 3" lift will feel it out better, I know its smaller (or same size i have right now)?

Another question...the m/t being heaver or beefier..will i see more mpg lose with the m/t or bigger a/t?

Anybody else, 285 A/T or 265 M/T....

Yes, a heavier more aggressive treaded 265 could be worse than a lighter less aggressive tread 285 AT. Check out the weights of the tires on Tireracks spec sheets.

I upgraded from 265 to 285 at the same time I leveled the front of my truck. I saw a loss of about 1-2 mpg depending on if it was highway or back road driving. The Bridgestone Duellers were about 46# each if I remember correctly and the new tires are somewhere in the 80+ pounds. So, you will see a loss with the lift and also with the tires. The 285/70-17 left me with a 3 mile variance at 70. So 70mph on my speedo was actually 73. That also equates to 73 miles for evry 70 the speedo registered.
