I know this topic has been discussed in some form before. My question is:can I safely go 7500 (or more) miles between oil changes with Mobil 1 oil? I am at 6100 miles since my last oil change and my DIC says 47% OIL LIFE REMAING.Thanks for any advice.-Andy.

7500 should be fine even if your doing alot of stop and go driving and short trips. I wouldn't go beyond 7500 unless you get it tested by blackstone labs or someone similar and see how well the oil is handling it. I run redline and im gonna try to keep it around 5000 miles every time i change but im a little anal about changing my oil and don't mind the cost.

Mobil 1 makes two grades of synthetic oil. You have regular silver cap and then extended performance gold cap. The silver cap is typically fine through 7500 miles maybe 10000 miles depending on your driving conditions. The gold cap is typically good for 10000 to 15000 miles again pending your driving conditions. I highly recommend an exteneded life oil filter like the Mobil 1 or a Bosch Performance one. If not, then I'd replace the oil filter at 5000 miles and top off the oil level. I do not think the DIC can tell if you are running synthetic oil or not and it's algorythm is based on standard dino oil so it is of no use for synthetic change intervals...well maybe you could reset it and run it down to 25% twice.

Mobil guarantees their regular Mobil 1 for 10,000 miles and EP for 15,000.

The OLM is designed with conventional oil in mind...an algorithm that estimates oil life based on a series of engine parameters, some of which are, RPM, Load, and temperature.

That added to the 10K mile life span of M1, I would say your gonna be fine.

I use what ever the dealership has in the barrel, and I go till about 20% on the OLM...or 6 months...

I believe Synthetic has a year life span if you don't meet the mileage limit.

I run the 5W-30 Truck @ SUV in mine and go by the OLM with no problems. You'll be fine. I would suggest running a extended capacity oil filter like the Mobil 1 EC or Purolator Pure One.

I use regular M1 and change when it tells me to. Usually runs about 9k. Use plain old PF-46 filters, too. Bet my motor is about to blow :).

I also dump the cheapest stuff I can find (usually Mobil 5000) into my girlfriends turbocharged volvo and run that ****er 7500, which is its oil change light interval. Hasn't blown up yet!

People are way paranoid about oil change intervals and quality, although it has gotten better in recent years judging from these replies.
