Hey everyone! Long time listener, first time caller....lol.

 

2004 Suburban 1500 4wd LT 5.3liter.

 

I'm looking for a good map, diagram, or description of where to find the EVAP purge solenoid ground wire (dk green/white) as it enters the PCM. There are 4 dk green/whites that enter the PCM according to my Haynes diagram. VSS OUT, IGN CNROL, EVAP CanP, and A/C REQ.

 

I do not have a Tech II and I'm looking around for someone who does. In the meantime, I've tracked a stubborn P0443 down to either a bad PCM or a bad ground wire between the purge solenoid and PCM.

 

To check it, I need to locate where it enters the PCM. Which harness and general location, since there are 4 different ones. I've been reading a lot on here, and it has helped me troubleshoot to this critical step.

 

Now for the reason.

 

I've been fighting lots of electrical demons lately. A lot seemed to have started with my use of a round to 5 flat trailer light adapter. On a recent trip with a relatively new (2009) boat trailer, I had not only the MIL for this EVAP issue, but I had Airbag, service 4wd, service stabilitrak, and an odd low idle issue that went away. Then I started blowing the TRLR PARK 15amp fuse to top off the 15hr trek.

 

I've had an EVAP MIL for about 6 months on and off that I believed was legit. Started with tighten gas cap, some large leak codes. Occasionally she wouldn't take gas on a P0449. I replaced the EVAP vent valve with an ACDelco 2142149. Figured that would be the end of it.

 

Nope.

 

Recently I've been getting P0443 and P0449. I tore into the underhood electrical center and found some evidence of mice. I had a 22 gauge white that was just about eaten through, and a yellow and pink that were stripped. Figured I'd found the smoking gun.

 

Nope.

 

After the repair, within 2 miles, "tighten gas cap" Next engine start I had the MIL for p0443. All my troubleshooting today brought me to the request for the PCM wire map.

I've got a simular problem. Please help; I have a 06 GMC 1500 Sierra 4x4 extended cab truck with a 5.3 engine. A few months ago I removed my vent valve solenoid and cleaned the dirt out of it because I got a P0449 code. Upon removing the solenoid valve as expected it was dirty and when bench tested did not operate, common problem with GM. Before purchasing a new solenoid valve I thought I would try cleaning the old one to possibly get it working again. Once I cleaned the valve it operated fine when bench tested. To keep the dust out of the solenoid valve I relocated the solenoid vent forward up by the transmission using a length of 5/8 heater hose as recommended by a GM bulletin. I cleared the code and everything worked fine (no pending codes detected) for months until now, P0449 is back! I thought the old valve must be sticking again so rather than deal with it again I purchased a new Solenoid valve which bench tested fine. But after I installed the new solenoid I still get the P0449 pending code? I've traced out the wiring and it seems to be fine, I've got 12v back at the connection but the new valve doesn't work when connected? The PMC doesn't seem to be grounding the solenoid valve to command it shut. I believe the connection is always supposed to have 12v and the solenoid valve operates shut when the PMC completes the ground connection, correct? I'm starting to think my PMC is faulty but it seems awful funny when I cleaned and reinstalled the original solenoid valve it worked fine for a few months? What should I do next, any suggestions???

Buy a FSM and follow the diagnostics.

    • Thanks, so being a different beast altogether, anyone know what the "optimal" temp is for the 10L80/90 for proper shifting?
    • How many years have I pointed out every point in that link to the folks here and been avalanched with criticisms and outright hostilities at times? I ran counter to even the great CUSTOMBOSS and Lake Speed Jr and the half dozen experts on YouTube and in the final.....GM, Physics (Stribeck) backs that Grumpy old Bear.    Honestly, I never said a thing engineering hadn't studied silly and laid in concrete during WWII. But I'm old, the information is old and yet, the Laws of Physics are eternal.    Okay there is one exception. I vehemently disagree with their use of the word 'tolerances' when what it meant is "clearance".   The clearance is the distance between two objects. The tolerance is the degree of acceptable variation permitted in that clearance. I.E., piston to bore clearance is 0.004" with a tolerance of +/- .0002" so the clearance is in specification if it lies between 0.0038" and 0.0042". Cutting that 'tolerance in half has ZERO impact on lubrication requirements. Makes for more difficulty in manufacturing.  But a tighter clearance 'MAY'. Depends on finish. Anyway....   It's one of those statements made by people to make themselves look smarter than they are to convince people who are as un-enlighten as they seem to manipulate their behaviors. But hey, the blind leading the blind puts them both in the pit. 
    • Out and about yesterday on a long Saturday drive I passed a lot of Shell stations. My preferred, so I pay attention. Lot's of small town Illinois so not six stations in three blocks like the city.    Everyone of them over a radius of say 100 miles had regular at $4.19 but one which was the one closest to home at $4.15. However Premium pricing varied greatly between 85 cents over regular to $1.50 over. I'm not counting the price of the station with the lowest regular so the reference is the same for the remainder and all within the same brand. However the spread discrepancy holds across all brands.     @txab, any thoughts on that? 
    • What are your thoughts? The Chevy Blazer relaunch was an epic case of 'lunchbag letdown'. Jeep Wranglers and Ford Broncos stick out like a sore thumb.    The AI photos do not look like a 'retro version', but shrunken Tahoes. Get away from the 'futuristic look'. I've seen two concepts. One had rectangular headlight like a Rivian and the other way too big headlights (similar to a previous non-Wrangler SUV) should include dual round headlights like the early version.   If not this would look OK   At least it has GM styling (albeit the K2XX) A lot of the images floating around look like Bronco IIs or the current Bronco. Looking at the Broncos in my area (central Ontario, it seems to be a mix of 2 doors and 4 doors, 'mall rated' to ones that could go offroad.    I'm sure a AT4 and AT4X RPOs could be outfitted similar to a Rubicon if the braintrust understood the whole offroad scene. Crossing my fingers that if it does see the light that the front air dam/bumper doesn't extend below the center line of the tire...
