i have an 89 GMC LD 2500 4x4 with the 700r4 and the 350 in it. i currently have a 2" lift and 33" tires on it. Problem is the thing is a ex cab long box and a total dog. some one told me if i advance the timing on the distrib. it will get a little better get up and go. timing is one thing i know very little about and was wondering if i should try it and if so how. thanks guys

To get the most out of it you can't just advance timing but need to modifiy the distributor. Some one who know how to make one work right is worth their weight in gold if you ask me. I would try to find an older mechanic who is or was a drag racer is seems most of them modified distributors back in the day and they may still have the parts to do it. It was so big at one time Mr. Gasket had a set of springs and weights for each mfg. Good Luck. :(

well for one i fell bad for you with a 2500 4x4 and a 8ft bed.gm should have used the 350tbi in a truck like that way to heavy of a truck for that motor. You wont get much.To be honest with you even if you were to throw a cam in their the heads will bottle neck it.TBI heads are the worst flowing heads gm ever used on a truck.Get a nice set of eforce heads 279 each assembled and all. Will bolt right up to the stock intake and will still pass inspection.port and polish those eforce heads and the stock intake mani and TB and you could easily see a 55hp gain maybe more considering the other mods you have already, you have to consider this truck is fed by the TB.But if the motor is ready to go of course the gains will be less.ALSO yoou might need a chip for those mods to actually get the most out of them tbichips.com brain will hook you up.this is the setup im going with. Also the stock fuel pump barely is enough to feed the stock tbi 350 upgrade that as well as a adj FPR.probably 700 bucks for everything.i guess it beats swapping,or maybe a LT1 is your answer.trust me the TBI 350 stock is not satisfying. Not even in my C1500 that weighs WAY less then your 2500.
