86 Chevy K10 Backfire

got a 350 with an edelbrock intake and a 4 barrel holley carb....

 

When driving in Overdrive down the highway it will backfire at any acceleration you have to just hold your speed or speed up real slowly....

 

 

 

But when you drop it to Drive...it runs fine....Also when Starting the vehicle you get a strong smell of fuel and when shutting it off it smells of fuel. Also...when getting it to operating temp and shutting it off and getting back in it in 10 min it acts like its flooded you have to push the pedal to the floor to get it to fire then you have to rev it up to get idle back to normal....

 

 

Don't know if the timings wrong..or the carburateur isn't set right....any help would be appreciated!!!

Usually... A backfire is associated with an electical condition. Check your timing and get it set, then address your carburator. You could have the floats set too high and they need to be dropped down a bit. Also, check the condition of your plug wires as well as the plugs, they will tell a story of what's going on in the engine.
