dannyukonxl Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Hey guys, I'm at 61,000 on my 04 2500 burb (8.1). I've been thinking about servicing the tranny as I've done some decent towing/mountain towing but a little confused whether I should do a flush/ drop the pan + do the filter. I'm planning on going with a dex VI and WIX filter, or mobil 1 ATF. Just not sure which path I should go? Thanks!
brainpause Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 I just changed the fluid in my 4L60E in my half ton, which I believe is similar to your transmission, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. It isn't too bad, especially if your pan happens to have a drain bolt. Mine doesn't, and I still didn't think it was too hard. The worst part about it was getting the filter seal out after removing the old filter. Just take your time and get ready to get messy. There's a good writeup on the How-To Tech Wiki here. I tried to get my pan down without removing the shifter cable bracket, but that ain't happenin'. You MUST have a Torx 40 bit to remove it, so go ahead and buy one. Change the filter gasket and clean the pan good. Buy two cans of brake cleaner for that. If you can change a tire, I bet you can do this. Larry

Not feeling the 3 quarts of ATF eating my driveway. The extra 30 bucks is well worth it.
