Grill Painting

ok guys i when to a local body shop to see about getting some touch ups on the truck and while i was there i asked about getting the grill painted but he said that it would peel. i am almost positive that i have seen that people on this site have done it themselves, i just cant find the tread so i am asking if you have done it how did you go about doing it and if theres a guide already done maybe post a link. the reason i am asking is because i have a chip on the grill and the chrome is gone and its starting to spread and i would like to paint it black to match the truck.

It would be kind of hard to powdercoat plastic with having to be baked and all... Its not real chrome as you know I'm sure. There is no reason a good scuffing and some adhesion promoter can't be used. Even if the grille shell was real chrome, there are plenty of places that will strip it for a small fee.

I painted my chrome grill. Just used 80 grit sand paper to ruff up the chrome and then prime and paint i also painted the center bar (which was chrome) had it this way for a year now and doesnt chip. heres a couple pics by the way this is a really hard color to match 8 or 9 different variances from factory... but yours wont be as hard hopefully just do it. Looks a lot better in my opinion than the chrome.

I painted mine with rattle cans. Sand paper, etching primer, quality paint/clear. I have some rock chips of course, but no peeling.
