NO THANK YOU! That's not even fast enough to vent the cabin after a trip to Taco Bell.

Very impressive numbers though. For some reason FI motors lend really well to highway mileage. I know that after I installed the supercharger on my GTO, it clicks off 28mpg if I keep it around 75 mph. Bone stock, the best I ever saw was 24. Most of the time it gets about 8 mpg though

Something doesnt add up. They state that they got 36 gallons into a 26 gallon tank and drove 2500 miles. Look at the math then:

3*26 = 78 gallons

3*36 = 108 gallons

2500/78 = 32.05 MPG

2500/108 = 23.15 MPG

The EcoBoost seems like an impressive motor, but this test seems highly flawed, or at least the facts are skewed/misreported....

I think they just added the fact that they squeezed 36 gallons in there as an anecdote, not as something they did at every fill up...There are some details left out, but I really see no reason to doubt their claim. I got almost 22 mpg out of my 2002 5.3 4x4 extended cab truck a few years ago by going 60-62 mph with the AC on between Dallas and OKC...But that was just going slow and using cruise. Hypermilers do some strange shit to get the mileage they do, way beyond just slowing down over long stretches. They cut the motor off when coasting, coast more, brake less, etc. More power to them, I don't have the patience to do that stuff. I watched a show one time where some dude was getting over 30 mpg in a Tahoe by using some hypermiling techniques.

More power to them, as long as they stay out of the fast lane

Amen to that! Nothing more that I hate then some weenie in a Prius trying to use the hammer lane while in "eco" mode. Lead, follow or get the hell out of my way.

As far as the 32 mpg claim, I could believe that out of a little V-6 like this. My 'ol '98 K1500 5.7R ECSB will pull down 20 mpg, unloaded with the cruise set at 70. Then again it has 265/75R17's and 3:42 gears but I RARELY am driving that slow also so I don't see 32 mpg for this little blow dryer engine as being big hype either.

im not calling BS on this one, but one thing i do know is that i have NEVER seen better the 17 no matter how i drive in ANY of the trucks in my sig. never seen above 15 in my 2001

Is this going to be like the hypermiled Fusion that Ford went around crowing about...when in actuality, people that drive normally aren't even seeing the 41MPG that Ford claimed...or the combined mileage Ford claimed?

The cheerleaders and fanboys will use a flawed and illogical story like this to claim "top honors", but the majority of people will see right through this PR stunt.

Impressive numbers but like others said, the crap the hypermilers pull to make it happen is more than I'm willing to do. 45 on the highway may be legal in most states but that is a dangerously low speed when the limit is 65 and most drivers are doing 75-80.

Very true statement. I try to keep my car at 65 on the highway during my morning commute. Even at 65, I have people going by me like I'm standing still. At 45, they would be a danger to everybody. At 65 in my Miata, I can pull 32 MPG with the top down.

I drove the Silvy this morning, could not keep that V8 under 70...

I had a supercharged Nissan Frontier that was lucky to get low 20's and it weighed alot less than an F150. I know it was not direct injected like the ecoboost, but the extra weight and wind drag of the F150 should easily equalize the benefits of direct injection.

Anyone ever tried to drive a Silverado 45mph to see what it will get. Every gearing combination has a sweet spot where it is the most effecient and I suppose they are telling you what that is for the F150. But very seldom can you drive 45mph for an extended period during day to day driving. I do not doubt the ecoboost will get the best economy in the fullsize market when compared to what else is available right now. But time will tell if consumers actually see what Ford claims they will.

285 tires (a bit larger than stock, probably helped a bit at highway speeds)

My trip to Dallas from OKC was going balls-out (like normal) and averaging 80-85 mph. Netted me around 13.9 mpg. I filled up before I came back, and hit I-35 as well as my trip meter. Since the tires were bigger than stock, I was also using the GPS. I hit the cruise around 62-ish, but would click up or down depending on traffic, going up to 64...But generally kept it down around 60. Air conditioner ON.

I got off the highway in OKC, and immediately pulled into the gas station to fill up and check. I about fell over. If memory serves, it came up to 21.9 mpg. I made a thread on it at the time. I was floored that I got that mileage. I repeated the feat again later on a trip home from Tulsa.

Granted, it's relatively flat in this part of the country, and that trip home from Dallas took a year off my life from the stress of going so damn slow...But the odometer/GPS/mpg don't lie.

i bet its because you were in a flat part. here in PA im either going uphill or downhill rarely flat.

im really try and see what kinda MPG's i can get out of one of my trucks next road trip. hopefully in 20's.
