Radio-on Star Sound Or Voice Issues

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a 2008 Sierra 1500 reg cab, used, with about 40K miles. It is in great shape and seemingly was very well maintained. The only problem I have uncovered is with the radio-On Star sounds coming from the speakers. When the truck is first started the radio sound, well its kinda not normal (it sounds like you are listening to an old AM transistor radio). If you press either the phone or On Star button on the rear view mirror, the voices are all but un-hear-able. After maybe 10 min, maybe 30 min (it is not always the same amount of time) while driving, something changes and everything sounds right. The radio has a much fuller sound, the On Star voices are very easily heard through the truck's speakers.

Any suggestions as to a quick and or inexpensive fix would be greatly appreciated :jester:

I know the chimes only go through the left front speaker, I don't know about OnStar but try this anyway-

When the OS is acting up, use the fade and balance controls to direct sound to just the left front speaker and see if it's distorted and poor quality. If it is, just replace the speaker (assuming the wiring looks good).

I had my front speakers kicking out from time to time and I would pretty much lose the On-Star....could barely hear it....I just replaced the speakers today.....not factory of course....sounds much better.

Well, until you said it changes after a few minutes I thought I had a solution for you. But I understand what you are saying. We just picked up a '08 Denail Yukon XL and I noticed that most of the tiime when you crank the truck the radio volume fades in. I don't know why it does that but you crank it up and the radio is barely audible. Then after about 30 seconds the sound comes up to a normal volume and everything is OK.

I was originally going to say that on my radio (and I have the Nav/Audio system in mine) there is a separate EQ setting for talk radio that if you press it, it makes the radio sound like an old AM station no matter what channel you put it on. Then you have to try to remember where that stupid setting is hidden so you can turn it off.

I don't know why the radio in the '08 does the volume fade thing though. I just figured it was a 'feature'. A useless one but a feature nonetheless...
